Lance Archer vs. Eddie Kingston
This was everything I was expecting between these two. You can tell that Eddie loves his AJPW. When Archer is properly unleashed, he can be downright terrifying. I am still waiting for that truly epic moment from him though. This was a hard-hitting and physical match. Kingston took a brutal chokeslam onto the ring apron that looked quite painful. Some may see it as overkill and/or recklessness but I thought it helped with the vibe the two men were going for. Kingston gets the win with a brass knuckle assisted spinning back fist. This was short but it did what it needed to do. I would love to see a full-length program with these two.
Another Moxley Recap
Jon Moxley cuts another promo recapping the chaos that’s going in AEW. Honestly, I could watch Mox comment on the state of wrestling all day. He is the voice of the fans here. He is confused as to the nature of the relationship between The Elite and The Good Brothers/Don Calis. We all are. He says that it doesn’t matter what’s going on, he’s going to be coming for them.
Sting and Darby: Just a Couple of Hoodlums
Sting and Allin are in some sort of warehouse and talk about their match with Team Taz at Revolution. Sting takes offense to Taz’s comments from last week, saying that they are not “hoodlums.” He does agree that Darby could be one, though. Allin smashes some windows with his skateboard which fires up Sting, who then does acknowledge that he is a hoodlum as he takes his bat to some windows. I thought this was the best Sting has sounded since coming to AEW. Maybe because it wasn’t live.
MJF and Chris Jericho vs. The Hollywood Blondes
This surprised me. I thought this match made the Blondes, especially Griff Garrison look like stars. I’m really starting to come around when it comes to these two. MJF and Chris Jericho continued to work well with each other here. Jericho looked a lot better this week. I’m sure he saw the criticisms of last week’s performance and made a point to hit a textbook Lionsault, giving his team the win. After the match, Sammy Guevara and MJF continue to get in each other’s faces. I know at some point this program will boil over and I can’t wait to see it.
Shaq Attack Strikes Back
Onscreen, Shaquille O’Neal cuts a promo talking about how tired he is of Cody Rhodes. He makes fun of Cody’s hair and says it makes Cody look like a little girl. He says that he and Cody should fight in March. Tony Schiavone is in the ring and introduces Cody Rhodes and Arn Anderson. Cody suggests that he will not be at Revolution because he’s going to be a dad soon. Arn takes the mic and tells the story of Cody’s birth and how Dusty did his job and was back in time to see Cody. Arn says that he’s been paying attention and he has a backup plan for Revolution. He brings out Red Velvet who says that she will take care of Jade Cargill. I didn’t care for this segment. I’m not a fan of celebrities in wrestling and Shaq’s promo just seemed clunky and unnecessary.
Adam Page vs. Ryan Nemeth
This was good. Nemeth is very reminiscent of his brother and the similarities were obvious. There wasn’t a ton of stuff in this one. Ryan got a chance to show off his athleticism. Page wins with a Buckshot Lariat. Post-match, Matt Hardy approaches Page and they have a quick discussion. Matt says that he doesn’t want anything from Adam, he just wants to support Page. This was interesting. We have another faction looking to add Page to their ranks.
Jungle Boy vs. Dax Harwood
This was an absolute blast and easily my match of the night! I think a lot of people underestimate Jungle Boy but he is a star and this was a great opportunity to show what he can do. As for Dax, it’s not often that he gets a singles match but man, he is really good. There was an old school vibe to this match that I really enjoyed. The stipulation of Cash and Tully being handcuffed to Luchasaurus was a nice throwback. This was speed versus power. Jungle Boy gets a submission victory, as Dax taps out to the Snare Trap. After the match, Tully and Cash break free of Luchasaurus. Jungle Boy eats a spike piledriver and Luchasaurus gets his horns cut off. FTR goes to finish the job but gets ran off by SCU, Top Flight, and Marko Stunt.
Britt Baker vs. Shanna
This was quick. Shanna tries but gets outclassed by Dr. Baker. Britt quickly gets the win after hitting a curb stomp followed by the Lockjaw. Baker tries to continue the beatdown but Thunder Rosa makes the save.
The Young Bucks and The Good Brothers vs. The Dark Order
This was a pretty textbook AEW multi-man match. This was chaotic. One thing that really stood out for me on this one was John Silver. Silver got the hot tag spot here and really made the most of it, taking out all of his opponents. It’s easy to see the comedy stuff and dismiss Silver but he’s really good. Watching the Bucks work with Anderson and Gallows was fun but the dynamic between the teams is really confusing. One would think that The Good Brothers’ relationship with Don Calis would cause friction with Matt and Nick but that never really happened. The Biz Cliz pick up the win after Stu Grayson gets nailed with a Meltzer Driver. After the match, the tag champs say that they are entered in the tag team battle royal next week and if they win, they can pick their opponents at Revolution. They hint that could be talking about The Good Brothers. Fenix appears out of nowhere and he takes out the Bucks. Jon Moxley is out next and fights off Anderson and Gallows. Kenny Omega tries to sneak up on Moxley but, Jon is ready. Moxley connects with a huge Paradigm Shift on the AEW champ as the show goes off the air.
