Adam Page vs. John Silver

This was a great opener. John Silver continues to impress, going from comedic goofball to serious contender in the blink of an eye. Adam Page showed more of a serious side as well. When Adam is focused, he truly is one of the best talents in AEW and it makes me wish there was a full-sized crowd at some point to cheer the Hangman on. One that I took from this was Silver’s ability to string together a series of moves in quick succession, managing to counter a Buckshot Lariat with a very nice hurricanrana. The second time was the charm though as, the Buckshot does eventually connect, giving Page the win. After the match, Evil Uno lets Page know that the Dark Order is here for him if he wants.

Kenny Omega is backstage with Alex Marvez, discussing last week’s contract signing debacle. He mentions how he was considered the best wrestler in the world but that title has been passed on to Moxley. Kenny wants to put that to the test. He wants a straight-up match, no “garbage wrestling.” He also brings up Jon’s promo from last week. He then congratulates Jon and closes the segment by suggesting that Kenny’s dad could in fact beat up Moxley’s dad.

Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Lee Johnson

This was a straight-up squash match. Hobbs looked like an absolute killer, complete with a Mike Tyson style towel and old school Taz black and orange singlet. Hobbs gets the easy win after hitting a version of the World’s Strongest Slam. Post match, Taz cuts a promo about how the FTW title should be respected. Taz’s mic keeps getting cut off because management doesn’t want to hear it. Out comes Cody to diffuse the situation. Cody and Taz for back and forth a bit until Cody mentions that Taz’s son is training to be a wrestler with the Nightmare Family and not with the Human Suplex Machine. Taz takes offense to this and locks in the Tazmission on the American Nightmare. This ruled!

Alex Marvez is back and this time, he’s with Eddie Kingston. Eddie talks about that he’s not mad that Penta left the family…he’s just disappointed. He did it expect it from Rey Fenix though. Jon Moxley interrupts. The two men have a staredown for a bit until Eddie says that he did not attack Moxley because he has his own stuff to handle.

Top Flight vs. The Hybrid 2

The newly signed Top Flight got to have another fantastic showing on Dynamite. It was also nice to see TH2 appear on something that wasn’t Dark on a semiregular basis. The story behind this match was the inexperience of the young Top Flight. While they were able to pull off some incredible maneuvers, both Daunte and Darrius would continually make some lackadaisical covers and were unable to put away Angelico and Evans. Angelico is able to get the win for his team after Daunte taps out to a truly creative kneebar. After the match, TH2 beat down Top Flight for a while until the Young Bucks come down to make the save.

SCU vs. Inner Circle

Kazarian and Christopher Daniels take on Chris Jericho and Jake Hager. The match itself was fine. This was the first time we are able to see the newest incarnation of the Inner Circle with MJF and Wardlow being added to the mix. It is noted that Chris Jericho and Christopher Daniels have never wrestled each other before and I found that interesting. I would have sworn that between both of their long and well-traveled careers, they would have crossed paths at some point. This match was an opportunity for Kazarian to really put in work here. Hager also gets some moments to show off his power game a few times here. Jericho got to do what Jericho does. He knows his character and knows what he’s there to do. Towards the end of the match, the newest Inner Circle members pay dividends as MJF is able to sucker punch Daniels with the Dynamite Diamond ring whilst the referee is distracted, giving Jericho time to set up the Judas Effect for the win. Afterward, Kaz punches out MJF as the Inner Circle swarms on him until Scorpio Sky clears the ring with a steel chair in hand.

Backstage, Kip Sabian and Miro are about to launch their new video game segment until their Xbox is turned off by Orange Cassidy. They chase after him only to be cut off by the Best Friends. They brawl throughout the parking lot for a while.

Back in the ring, the second attempt for the AEW Championship contract signing is afoot. As Kenny Omega is making his entrance, he is attacked by the champ. Moxley tosses Kenny into the ring and lands a Paradigm Shift onto the title. Moxley grabs the mic and lets Kenny know that Omega needs to make his shot count because if you come for the king, you better not miss.

AEW Women’s Championship: Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Anna Jay

This was a fairly short and straightforward match. Anna Jay has really come along in such a short amount of time. Anna joining the Dark Order has done a lot for her. This was not a squash by any means but I never thought Shida’s title was in jeopardy at any point. Hikaru retains after hitting Jay with that running knee strike. After the match, Abadon returns after taking time off due to injury. Shida looks genuinely grossed out by the zombie as Abadon snatches the title and licks it, leaving the title stained with blood.

The Butcher and The Blade vs. PAC and Rey Fenix

The newly reformed Death Triangle is set to go against the Family. The much larger Butcher and Blade establish the power game early on as PAC and Fenix try to use their speed. There was an interesting dynamic between the two heel teams with PAC crossing over to more of an anti-hero role. Fenix continues to show why he is considered one of the best high flyers in the world. I was genuinely impressed with Butcher and Blade here. Butcher, in particular, looked great, connecting with some Stan Hansen style lariats. Butcher naturally has that old-school look and it was great to see that utilized. Eddie Kingston interferes by tossing Fenix off of the top rope which allows Butcher and Blade to hit the neck breaker bomb for a huge win. As the match concludes, the Family beats down Death Triangle. Kingston destroys PAC with two big DDTs. Lance Archer comes out and tries to take out Eddie with a chokeslam but he and his crew are able to slink away as the show ends.

Final Thoughts

  1. I noticed they added a new graphic as a match starts similar to a boxing match where the fighters are identified by the color of their trunks. Nice touch.

  2. I loved the Taz segment. It was such a throwback to the old ECW and I dug it. Tony Kahn as said before how much he loved ECW and it shows.

  3. Having Lance Archer get involved with Kingston and PAC was something that I did not see coming and I’m curious to see where this goes.

  4. Next week’s Winter is Coming edition of Dynamite has been built up as a big deal and almost feels PPV level and tonight did feel like a go-home edition right before a big event.
