Janela & Private Party vs Matt Hardy & The Bucks

Matt Hardy had some fun with the Bucks and the match was pretty entertaining. The big news is what happened next.

Butcher and Blade attack the Bucks after the match! Ok, that’s not the big news. FTR made their first appearance in AEW. Here’s what went wrong:

  1. The announce team was awful when the revolt got there.

  2. Every tandem finisher is a spiked driver of sorts in AEW.

  3. Why would they dress butcher and Blade in similar stuff as FTR?

A surprise debut but kind of a lame one. Aew does debuts of new talent all wrong.

Cody is TNT Champion

That belt is still super ugly.

Didn’t like the promo because I have a hard time relating to Cody as a babyface and it gets worse every time he does a promo. Cody is having an open challenge but he already has an opponent lined up, who’s to say Cody will still be the chip after that match? Why have a Battle Royal for a number one contender when you have rankings and win/loss records that determine that?

Battle Royal

The problem with multiman matches in AEW is that they place an L on everyone’s record except one person. It immediately discredits some of wrestlers’ wins and their losses. I would have started with this match, it’s a good way to ease into the show, not much of a way to end things in the ring. Orange Cassidy being one of the final 2 is a great way to elevate his character at an even pace. Jungle Boy was the right move, good finishing sequence. Jungle now has an opportunity to have a good match against Cody and then be buried like Shawn Spears… just kidding.

Cage debuts

How is it that a ladder match determined the number one contender when there are rankings and win/loss records that determine that? Moxley is on commentary for the Dynamite debut for Cage. Tazz puts Moxley on notice while Cage stares him down from the ring. Cage has to go over Moxley at Fyter Feat or AEW is making a big mistake. Cage is everything AEW has promoted itself to be; new, innovative, big-time etc.

Shida [c] vs Christi Jaynes

Bad booking at its finest. No way in hell a new comer should get in so much offense against your new champion. The fact that Jaynes was dancing around made Shida look kinda foolish for taking so long to beat her. Shida won and it was kind of a squash but not really but the booking was some of the worst I’ve ever seen.

Rules of being a role model

Britt Baker makes Tony Schiavone a stooge yet again. It would be funny if the segments were any good but half of the time they just don’t work because of Baker’s delivery. I see what they are going for but Baker’s character needs more polish to pull it off. Baker milks her injury with her weird assistant and struggled to pull off what could have been a decent segment if done right.

SCU vs Kip Sabian & Jimmy Havoc

Winner gets a title shot next week, what about Best Friends?! What the hell is going on with the win/loss record and rankings and why is this company overbooking everything they touch?!

Match was good, had some drama in it and the right result, Kip and Jimmy are hot right now. Best Friends vs Kip and Jimmy makes a ton of sense now that they have both been booked into a title match but how is it that Kip and Jimmy get their shot first? What makes even less sense is that Hangman and Kenny are finally starting to gel as a team and they’ll probably be dropping the titles to Best Friends. Best Friends should be champs right now so Kenny and Hangman should drop the titles.

Brawl for it all

The Inner Circle have themselves a pep rally even though they lost. Jericho was great as usual everyone was great actually.Santana was outshining everyone, even Hager did some good stuff as well, though it was limited.

Iron Mike Tyson was called out by Chris Jericho during the Inner Circle’s pep rally

Jericho calls out Mike Tyson over their history.

Mike Tyson got a better crew and music than 70% of the roster. Henry Cejudo and Rashad Evans ain’t playing no games, Musa also looked right at home in that crew. Of course Tyson has on an aew shirt, rookie shit I really wish they’d stop doing with all of their talent.

The pull apart was a mess, so much for any kind of social distancing, if that was something you guys care about. Pull aparts are silly and overdone and AEW is no better at them than any other company. Tyson couldn’t get his shirt off, it’s Mike Tyson, don’t do too much with him just let him be Mike. What a mess and that’s the last image I had of the show, a mess.

Honorable mentions

  1. Is the Bunny no longer with the butcher and the blade? ! She was spotted with Brandi just chatting it up and talking to QT Marshall.

  2. The music and cheerleaders during the break was a great move. Great picture in picture.

  3. Hangman and Kenny on cam went nowhere.

  4. Good to see the Dark Order in the audience

  5. Great idea to keep doing football themed segments.

Final take

I was not pleased with this show. Some considerable effort on their part to put on a good show but the continuity errors are too flagrant for me to look past.
