Jurassic Express vs FTR [c]
The match isn’t even about Jurassic Express, it was just a backdrop for the Bucks and their shenanigans. So who are the heels when the Bucks and FTR faceoff? What story are you telling between the two of them? Stop the silly coach stuff, the guys are the best in the business but you need to be coached on how to handle midcard level threats, Tully can be used better? The match was ok but it went on for way too long. Good finish but why are you using up your good finishes on midcarders at the beginning of a weekly show, this is best used on a PPV with a serious threat.
Page vs Kazarian
For no reason other than to have a good match, this is a match you can save to make Hangman more of a star later. The match was good, as expected but too damn long. Another reason why the match should have been saved for when Hangman is on the verge of a title shot. Omega on commentary was not as bad as it could have been but it wasn’t very good either.
MJF in action
The Captain is squashed in record time with some great selling but it should have and could have been someone else. MJF cuts a promo and sounds as if he’s starting a faction? How many factions are in this damn company? If MJF is the head of the new Four Horsemen group then I can get behind that 100%.
Hager & Jericho vs Private Party
Best match from Private Party in a while, Jericho and Hager were actually able to tell a bit of a story with them in the ring. Jericho puts on The Walls and is taken out by Marq Quen. I am looking forward to the feud actually, mainly because I know Jericho is capable of pulling good matches out of people. Use the old to put over the young.
Before the match, the Inner Circle took out Matt Hardy. Instead of Hardy actually being on tv they wrote him off, now this was done with Velveteen Dream and well you know the rest, double standards are bullshit.
Thunder Rosa [c] vs Ivelisse
Still slow, pausing before anything is done, I am not into Thunder Rosa’s AEW matches, not one of them. The Deeb match was sloppy, the work isn’t good, it’s just the talent going through the motions. The division is still awful and it has NOT gotten any better with these new additions in my opinion.
Is there a monster among us?
Archer promo was strong and clean, Team Tazz and Archer announce their partnership. Moxley is jumped by Starks and Cage but Will Hobbs makes the save with a chair shot and Moxley put him over real strong, best part of the show. I like what they’re doing but Mixley should have dropped that title to Cage or MJF and he should drop it to Archer, that’s the story that should be told.
Parking lot party
Santana &Ortiz vs Best Friends
Wish Santana and Ortiz saved their gimmick for a PPV and for a win. Overexcited fan(s) seemed too fake and took me out of it a little at the beginning but I pushed through. One of the best matches and main events the company has ever had. Finally these two teams looked as good as they actually are.Trent was destroyed, sacrificing his body to put on one hell of a show. Some stuff got a big pop from me, something that rarely happens when watching this program. Didn’t care for the Orange Cassidy spots, makes Best Friends look weak, they simply didn’t need him. I understand the assist but it was all unnecessary, they had gotten over without the shenanigans, it really took away from the seriousness of the match. Blood was actually fine in this match, it’s just that AEW does it all of the time. Mama pulled up at the end everything which was really cool but it was over done, overproduced and got way too cute.
Honorable mentions
Matches are always too long. Everyone doesn’t have to do everything.
Miro is ultra cut, too bad they are using him for dumb shit that doesn’t involve being physical. I’m positive he’s going to turn on Kip and give him an impressive beatdown.
Eddie Kingston directs a beatdown and tells Blade to get his house in order. No one knew Blade and Allie were married, it’s never been mentioned except by Eddie Kingston, that’s truly awful storytelling.
Final take
I found myself actually enjoying the last 30 minutes of the show, a rare occurrence. If the show was only n hour long I would enjoy it more, I believe there is too much going on and not enough explanation for ANY of it.
