Cody vs Jimmy Havok
The match was a little slow to start a show, just a tad but I liked the style that was wrestled, both wrestlers really told a story in the ring, not always something I’ve seen in this new company. Jake the Snake Roberts greets Cody via jumbotron calling out Cody, he then rejoins commentary to discuss it a bit, really great stuff there with the follow up by Cody.
Darby Allin vs Kip Sabian
Continuing his great vignettes, Darby Allin narrates his one detailing his beef with the Inner Circle.
Darby wins a decent match with Darby’s usual quick pace. I think giving Kip the win would have been a better move, Darby Allin was clearly looking past Sabian and should have lost because of it, furthering the story that he is preoccupied with the Inner Circle and Sammy Guevara.
Brodie Lee vs QT Marshall
I don’t think the Exalted One should come out of the tunnel like regular wrestlers. The ring gear still doesn’t do it for me. That discus lariat had no umph to it. Also, QT Marshall is a nobody(as far as rankings) and definitely not worthy of doing anything other than lasting 3 seconds against such an exalted opponent.
Sammy Guevara vs Kenny Omega
Omega is defending the AAA Mega Championship, interesting. Sammy has some unique offense, he’s also a master taunter. The backflip over Kenny was really cool, a guy knowing his audience is what’s going to get you far in this business, it’s what’s going to make you a star. Sammy lost but a title opportunity is nothing to sneeze or shake hands at. Sammy is the star of most of the segments he’s in, look out for him in 2021. They better tell a Randy Orton/Evolution story with him.
Jericho confronts Matt Hardy
There was some good, some bad, I’ll just take it for what it was. I better hear Wade Keller shitting on it for being community theater though, Wade always calls out Bray and others for bad community theater and this segment was certainly that at times. I don’t wanna see this type of segment again for a while.
Honorable mentions
The backstage cam was a nice break in the monotony. No one knew why Dasha was there though.
Jake Hager gets a win over jobber. Moxley shows up to run Hager out of the ring after Hager takes a Paradigm Shift and no sells it.
Exalted one vignette. Seems as if the Exalted One is actually in the way in this vignette. I get that he’s making fun of Vince but it was just weird and out of character for a character for a character we’ve never even seen.
Final take
I was very appreciative of Kenny Omega on commentary, his voice actually sounds a lot like Chris Jericho which is both good and bad. I actually had to rewind to see if it was Jericho for a second. Kenny Omega adds a sports like feel to things, he’s kind of like Tony Romo in the announce booth. Cody wasn’t quite as refined as Kenny but still did quite an amazing job on commentary as well. The show had a drop in quality but that was to be expected, how far it dropped was pretty far yet also somewhat expected but definitely not wanted.
