Moxley gets a mic and soaks in the adulation from the crowd. AEW uses Mox as their corporate sponsor but can’t say that it’s a bad move, everyone has one and Jon Moxley is a great choice because of what he epitomizes. The promo was the same one he dropped after his title win but it means so much more to be on TV. Jericho had words for Mox a couple of them was “lunatic fringe” which was what they called him in WWE. Jericho finally had heat on him this episode even though the crowd sang his theme song later in the night. The Inner Circle put the entire roster on notice to end a very good 16 minute plus segment for the growing promotion.
Colt Cabana & SCU vs Dark Order
Typical AEW/Indy match, Colt wins his first match in AEW with a relatively hot crowd. SCU always gets the job done and Dark Order was one of the best tag teams in the Indies and still is. Evil Uno did some great selling after the match screaming that the exalted one will not be pleased.
“Hail Caesar”
Cody cuts a promo and calls out MJF but is instead called about by a legend. If you’re gonna bring out Jake “the Snake” Roberts you don’t need to put “46 yrs of experience” above his name, who doesn’t know that, the fans!? Why would Cody want MJF to tell him that he beat him fair and square, there is like no disqualifications in AEW so who cares, Cody whipped MJF with a belt so what are these loose rules MJF was supposed to follow to be “fair”? Shitty booking leads to lots of questions. The crowd didn’t know what the hell they were cheering for they were just clapping like seals. I do like that Jake Roberts calling Cody Caesar, then Cody ruins it immediately by looking in the camera, breaking the fourth wall (if that even exist in wrestling) with a “see, I’m self aware” look. Jake the snake has a client and we don’t who this client is but his client is tired of all the bullshit and he’s coming for that ass!
Pac vs Chuck Taylor
A bit long but I can’t really be mad at it be sure it’s the type of wrestling this company needs. Pac wins after Taylor makes a costly mistake while Lucha Bros join Pac in a beatdown. We then find out that the beatdowns aren’t random, the trio inform us that they are now a group known as Death Triangle. I’m here for a good faction, I better see some midcard gold soon though.
QT Marshall vs Jake Hager
QT Marshall is now a member of the nightmare family because the Rhodes are turning into NWO. QT loses and the Inner Circle beats up the Elite and/or the Nightmare Family. Hangman Page clears the ring then gives the middle finger to Matt Jackson. I’m still not on board with hangman Page’s character/character development, maybe if being the Elite was an actual show it means more.
Sammy Guevara & Chris Jericho vs Darby Allin & Moxley [c]
Jr is a disservice to Darby Allin, calls him strange and says he’s in his own world. Meanwhile, Excalibur’s endorsement of Transformers the movie coming on after the show was terrible, “get yourself some Optimus prime” the hell does that mean?
Sammy and Jericho win after stacking the odds with the Inner Circle ringside then they take out Champion Jon Moxley at the end, asserting their dominance and putting the roster on notice as they said earlier. Jr incorrectly calls moxleys finished the paradigm effect, get him out of here, just hire Tazz full time.
Honorable mentions
Shawn Spears, the man that should have a significant win over Cody, is holding some sort of contest or something to find a tag team partner.
Britt Baker shows up on commentary with that annoying Starbucks talk.
Big Swole vs Leva Bates needs way more TV time and practice to get to where they both need to be as in-ring competitors.
MJF dropped another great vignette.
No Lance Archer.
In closing
I appreciate the effort, I really do but that women’s match was unnecessary and just thrown on the show to save face. “Card subject to change” is the type of shit Wade Keller gives WWE shit for every other show so I better hear AEW thrown to the wolves over Lance Archer. The show was fine, as the weeks go on, they realize that this company needs more actual programming and talking from it’s top talent, they do it but not nearly enough of it still. A good show coming off of a POV, statements were made and progress was shown.
