Sammy Guevara vs Darby Allin
Too bad Tony Schiavone gave away the results of this match weeks ago. Sure the match was great but I really hoped Tony Schiavone was scolded for his mistake, could not get into this match. Also, why book this high caliber match in the beginning of the tournament? The booking will continue to be an issue throughout the show.
Kenny Omega[c] vs Alan Angels
Jericho roasted Kenny for his looks which was kinda cool but kinda mean at the same time, Jericho did add quite a bit on commentary however. Alan Angels may not be elite competition but he wasn’t bad at all. Kenny can’t be caught wrestling unknown wrestlers though. We are talking about a guy that was champion in Japan and widely considered the best in the world at the time of his reign. Book Kenny better.
Havok vs Orange Cassidy
Penelope Ford interferes and Orange Cassidy gets the win in a slightly botched pin. The match was a little long and far too much like the PAC vs OC match so I wasn’t as interested the second time around. I cannot watch the same match too many times. Orange Cassidy needs some strong wins as well as long battles. I know he’ll eventually work his way to it but this build is going to be much too slow to be believable at this rate.
Wardlow is still a wrestler
This is like Wardlow’s second match and a jobber was able to put in more offense than they should have been able to. Wardlow ain’t bad but they certainly haven’t showcased or highlighted his best attributes with his opponents. The booking of the match was all off. I don’t know what the plans are for Wardlow but they’ve sat on him too long for me to be interested at the moment. Let me know when he enters a tournament for a cha….nevermind. (see what I mean about the booking?)
Brodie Lee
Brodie Lee continues to taunt Marko Stunt. I like that Marko Stunt ain’t no punk but Brodie Lee, the Exalted One, is now facing Marko Stunt… Lee is supposed to be this supreme being but he’s just squashing jobbers. At least Bray Wyatt challenged legends out of the gate, even if he lost to them.
Kip Sabian vs Dustin Rhodes
Not a main event level match at all. I have said that before and that means that booking still isn’t getting it right. The goofy stipulation that really had no business being a part of the match was Dustin’s possible retirement had he lost. Dave that still for an actual important match.
Honorable mentions
MJF vignette.
Cody opens with a great video, would have been better if someone else had that spotlight and Cody had been just a guy featured.
The Bubbly Bunch segment was ok but quickly getting old.
Final take
Booking, booking, booking! The show could have been really good but the booking screws up 85% of the things they try to establish, in my humble opinion of course. I tend to let things run their course but I don’t like the course things are taking.
