Jake the Snake Roberts starts off with another great vignette, he has been money since he started with AEW. I like the story but I gear Lance Archer and Cody won’t be able to rise to the occasion.

Britt Baker vs Shida

A match I would have saved for a live audience because these are two main characters on the show that can have a rivalry that could push the women’s division in the positive direction they’ve been headed. This was Baker’s chance to shine and I think she did that as the heel she should have been all along. The bloody broken nose was mostly Baker’s fault but still falls a bit on Shida as well. There were some sloppy spots Shida has a fair amount of trouble with less experienced opponents, could be language barrier could be that she just can’t elevate her opponents, whatever it is, it needs to change. Also, Jericho selling me on Britt Baker being a dentist is unnecessary, we get it. All that said, I actually enjoyed the match, Britt Baker looked fine in the heel role. While Shida picked up a win over an actual credible opponent.

Michael Nakazawa & Omega[c] vs Best Friends

Video wasn’t interesting, I don’t really care about “Nak” and Kenny in any way. The match was world class though, not every match can be perfect but t perfection isn’t what wrestling matches are about. They are about story and this story was told and much better than I anticipated especially after the unimpressive video. Best Friends win and get to keep their name.

Cody vs Spears

Vignette was strong as a precursor to the battle that took place. Shawn Spears has a great logo and a brighter future but the vignette made him look silly because he lost to Cody again. Good match overall, a little vanilla in terms of execution though. The obvious Brandy spot and table spot is what I was talking about. Cody and Spears need to be more creative and take more risk… creatively.

Honorable mentions

  1. The best part of the show is watching my boy Shawn Dean get put on.

  2. Lance Archer plows through a jobber

  3. Murdehawk is kind of a weird nickname but not any more weird than his atrocious ring gear.

  4. Hager vs Moxley video package

  5. Brodie Lee needs to stop talking about his ex and worry about his new bitch. The Vince McMahon parodies are already old.

  6. Matt Hardy responds to Jericho. Matt Hardy rips into the Inner Circle.

  7. Lee Johnson gets destroyed by the Exalted One.

Final take

Jericho on commentary was a treat, for about 2 matches, then it got a little old. Still, the episode was good this week even with the complaints I may have had. The stripped down version of AEW is the best AEW I’ve seen an the only AEW I like.
