Buy-In
NWA Women’s Championship-Serena Deeb (c) vs. Allysin Kay
I would have liked to see this on the main care but I get it. A Buy-In match should help get people interested in the main card, and this match can do that. Having Allysin Kay appear on the show just days after becoming a free agent is a smart play. Serena has been on a tear as of late and has been putting on some great matches. I expect this to be no different. I don’t see Deeb losing here but this should be a heck of a try-out match for Kay. Prediction: Deeb retains.
Main Card
Orange Cassidy vs. John Silver
This was recently moved from the Buy-In to the main show. John Silver has been a stand out character on Being the Elite and has been a part of some truly entertaining moments during this Pandemic Era of wrestling. I’m glad to see him shine. The same can be said for Orange Cassidy. Some may consider going from working with Chris Jericho in a major program to working with Silver a demotion of sorts but I disagree. The high energy Silver against the King of Sloth Style makes for a fun dynamic and this should be highly entertaining. Prediction: Orange Cassidy
Elite Deletion Match: Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara
I’m expecting this to be a cinematic “match”. I’m expecting this to make up for their match at All Out. I’m expecting this to wrap up their feud. I don’t quite know where this is going to land. Sammy has been bouncing between heel and face depending on his opponent which makes his character is a little hard to read. Matt has been on TV sporadically so, it has been hard to build up to this match. It makes sense for Hardy to get the win to close the story but Sammy still needs his big win. Prediction: Sammy Guevara
Chris Jericho vs. MJF
The build for this one has had everything from town hall meetings, to dramatic beatdowns, to elaborate song and dance numbers. It’s been fun watching Jericho essentially stand off against a younger version of himself. MJF has cemented himself as one of AEW’s top tier characters and this could be his breakout moment. If MJF wins, he gets to join the Inner Circle. I don’t know if that stipulation dictates the winner but I am expecting some shenanigans here. Prediction: MJF
AEW Women’s Championship: Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Nyla Rose
There has pretty much been zero set up for this and to me, this match kind of came out of nowhere. Hikaru has done well as the champ but perhaps it’s time for Nyla to regain the title. I would like to see Nyla and Vickie Guerrero have a Brock/Heyman kind of vibe. The division has had some time to rebuild so there are plenty of new wrestlers that could chase Rose for the gold. Prediction: Nyla Rose
AEW Eliminator Tournament Final: Kenny Omega vs. Adam Page
From an in-ring perspective, this should really good. We all knew this match would happen the second we saw the tournament brackets. Was it predictable? Sure. That’s not always a bad thing though if it makes sense. This story makes sense. I think it is finally time to pull the trigger on Kenny Omega. Both men would be fine choices here but I think Kenny needs to show why he was such a big deal a few years ago. Predictions: Kenny Omega
AEW TNT Championship: Cody (c) vs. Darby Allin
Darby gets another shot against Cody and this time, it’s for Cody’s “ace” title. Cody has been showing some heel mannerisms as of late. Maybe it’s time to make the flip. As for Darby, his story has been told from his trademark vignettes. Darby needs the win here. Yes, he took Cody to the limit last year but I think it’s time for him to take that next step. If he loses, where does he go? If he wins, Darby truly becomes an established star. Prediction: Darby Allin
AEW Tag Team Championship: FTR (c) vs. The Young Bucks
This match has had years to build off of but still feels kind of flat. For years, both teams have been considered the best in their respective promotions, and on paper, this should be as close to a video game dream match as one could get. There is a major disconnect. The Young Bucks have added the stipulation that if they lose, then they are never competing for the tag belts ever again. This should play into the finish somehow. What could make or break this match is the contrast of styles. The “no flips, just fists” philosophy of FTR against the high flying Young Bucks could be a lot of fun. Prediction: Young Bucks
AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Eddie Kingston
The rise of Eddie Kingston has been one of the best wrestling stories in 2020. Eddie went from almost quitting the business to headlining a major show for a major title. Moxley and Kingston have tremendous chemistry and this rivalry feels personal. It is basic storytelling at it’s best. This has the potential to be particularly brutal. Moxley should retain but having the “I Quit” stipulation protects Kingston and would still allow him to look like a million bucks. Prediction: Jon Moxley
