Wardlow & MJF vs Jurassic Express

MJF starts with a promo which is in the very beginning of this event which is probably a mistake. Wardlow is yelled at by MJF, leading to their loss and teases the inevitable split may be coming sooner than expected. Jurassic Express needed the win but it was the wrong time to give Wardlow and MJF a loss

Private Party vs Santana & Ortiz

I guess they’re not named proud and powerful anymore but how can they be proud when they are literally losers; they’ve done nothing but lose since signing with this company. No major angles, no major builds, no major feuds concerning the tag titles. Now they are losing Private Party, which may not sound too bad if you just look at their 2020 record but they just lost to Matt Hardy a couple weeks ago and Marq Quen lost to Cody the very next week. And next week Private Party is getting a title shot…

Shida [c] vs Penelope Ford

The ref immediately banned Kip Sabian from ringside which made things pretty interesting off the bat. Unfortunately, even though the match was decent at times it was overbooked. Too many New Japan style kick outs and entirely too much offense from Ford.

Shida plays to her competition and she has a very low bar in AEW. Shida has not been booked like a strong champion at all especially after going so long with Penelope Ford and barely being able to put her away. Jericho was killing me during this match, he was over the top for most of it and actually took away from what they were doing and they did some solid work.

Cody [c] vs Jake Hager

I liked the match, Hager looked strong and I actually thought he was about to be champ then that garbage finishing sequence happened. I get the idea of it but it’s a stupid idea with even worse execution.

Best Friends vs Omega [c] & Page [c]

I really thought Best Friends were going to go over the champs. I thought that they deserved to go over the champs. Best Friends looked great but AEW failed them. The booking of this division is unjustifiable! Best Friends have been great since AEW was a thing and they lose just so FTR can come out and offer Omega and Page a beer and it can end with beef. Ultimately, leading to FTR vs the Elite and then FTR vs the Elite again. Screwing over good tag teams just because of a story you want to run, sounds familiar to me.

Final take

Great special effects for the opening package. There was no match that particularly stood out for good or bad reasons. The entire card was just plain. I was only looking forward to two matches. I was disappointed with the booking of the finishes and the results. This product doesn’t want me to like it and that’s fine but I wonder if they even want their fans to.
