By the numbers:

NXT: 693,000

AEW: 692,000

-Show Buzz Daily

The numbers certainly came in quickly so did the spin from the Observer. Bryan Alvarez is as ridiculous as they come; the Bill O’ Reilly of wrestling news. AEW has months of wins so this won’t mean much but a win is a win, even if it’s by such a slim margin. A close race is actually a loss for AEW, the longer things are close between the two shows the more the negatives of their product will be exposed. AEW has no reason to be concerned unless this becomes a trend and it would have to be a trend for several months AFTER COVID-19 is no longer an immediate issue.

Honorable mentions

  1. Matches were good on both shows this week.

  2. The women had a bright spotlight on them that seemed to be a little too bright.

  3. Vignettes and promos have become more important than ever while both shows knock them out of the park.

Final take

Well that was unexpected, it seems every time I start to enjoy AEW the “fans” seem to think that the shows aren’t that good. People say it’s the Pandemic playing a roll, well that Pandemic has placed a vast majority of the world’s population indoors. So stop the demographic talk and coronavirus this, coronavirus that; a loss is a loss. NXT has taken months of losses gracefully. It’s still not really a war especially in this current climate. It’ll be interesting to see what a live crowd does to the business of both viewers. Wrestlemania benefited from everyone being at home but it seems that AEW fans only watch when it’s the cool thing to do.
