Mia Yim vs Candice LeRae
Sloppy at times and clunky at others but the ending made up for most of it and that’s really what matters. It was a very PG street fight to say the least. The pacing was ok and the action was ok, I guess I just expected much more coming from this after seeing what Yim and Shirai did.
Reed vs Nese
You can’t go by the “Premiere Athlete” if you’re losing all of your matches. Tony Nese needs a change in his character, something to match his in-ring ability, in order to reach the next level. Bronson Reed is a guy that is destined for the North American title if he continues on this trajectory. Reed has a ton of upside but you never know.
Gargano vs Swerve Scott
Swerve Scott had this one in the bag but Gargano was a little too savvy. Swerve had all the right moves but Johnny Gargano is in the middle of a big push so I think he needs the win a lot more than Scott right now. I believe Gargano is still eyeing the North American Championship.
Mercedes Martinez vs Santana Garrett
I want them to do so much more with Garrett but her character needs a major overhaul and this match was all about Mercedes Martinez. Martinez looked really strong against a good competitor. Martinez has undergone a physical transformation to become much more lean, even dropping muscle. I hope she does some stuff with Yim because they seem like they would have great chemistry and it would be a good feud for Mercedes because at this point Yim is a top level gatekeeper.
Adam Cole [c] vs Keith Lee [c]
A clean victory for Keith Lee has us all basking in his glory with a handshake from Adam Cole, the torch has been passed. Great storytelling coupled with great wrestlers makes for great outcomes. Karrion Kross has his eyes on Keith Lee from a control room, can’t wait to see where that is going.
Final take
Night 2 held up well with it’s historic main event. NXT just puts on a top shelf product each week and it is a pleasure to watch.
