Preshow
Los Mysterios[c] vs Usos
I always expect too much. I thought that the father and son team would keep the belts a little longer. The crowd loved the title change and now the bloodline is whole. Cheaters cheat to win and it wasn’t that big of a cheat. I like when there are shenanigans but not so absurd that it cheapens the win too much.
Women’s ladder match
Asuka vs Naomi vs Alexa Bliss vs Nikki A.S.H. vs
Liv Morgan vs Zelina Vega vs Natalya[c] vs Tamina[c]
Not a whole lot I want to even say about this one, there were some highly choreographed spots that I didn’t like but that’s every year at this PPV. The ending made perfect sense but it made everyone look really dumb, even crowd favorites like Liv Morgan. I’m glad Nikki gets her push but I believe Liv Morgan needed it a bit more to keep her momentum.
WWE Championship
Bobby Lashley[c] vs Kofi Kingston
A landslide victory for the WWE Champion. Bobby Lashley beat the hell out of Kofi and as much as I think Kofi is beneath Lashley, I did not want an opponent of the champ to get squashed.
Raw Women’s Championship
Charlotte vs Rhea Ripley[c]
This match really turned the PPV around. The crowd was firmly behind Charlotte, she is the star that WWE claims she is. The problem is that when Charlotte is on top not one person benefits from it (except Charlotte). The company benefits and Charlotte gets plenty of exposure but it does absolutely nothing for the women’s division. When Sasha held the SmackDown title, both her and Bianca won an Espy for it. With that said, the queen has great matches with great opponents; this was one of them. The queen sits atop her throne once again while Rhea Ripley is protected, at least that is something.
Men’s ladder match
Ricochet vs Matt Riddle vs John Morrison vs Drew McIntyre vs Big E vs Shinsuke Nakamura vs Kevin Owens vs Seth Rollins
That boy Ricochet is just different, he truly is the one and only. I wasn’t overly impressed with the natch itself but there were some good moments. KO took some big bumps as usual. Ultimately Big E won and I believe that he will avenge his fallen New Day brethren.
Universal Championship
Roman Reigns[c] vs Edge
A little on the slow side, Edge has definitely lost at least a half step but that’s more than ok. Its not just that Edge is old or slow, it’s that he had to change his style a bit to suit that, which is fine. Roman retains after plenty of shenanigans, including an attack by Seth Rollins, but the biggest story is the return of John Cena!
Honorable mentions
That giant entrance is great, I love the quaint feel to the entrance and the narrow walkway.
AJ Styles and Omos retain against the Viking Raiders.
Final take
I wasn’t big on the show at the start, it wasn’t what I wanted to see but it got really good when Rhea and Charlotte took the stage. The fans behaved, only one or two silly chants that were squashed pretty early on. Plenty of great surprises for a show that has positioned WWE to catapult back into the limelight.
