The double champ speaks

The champ champ thanks everyone that helped him get to where he is like Tim Brooks, his trainer that recently passed away. Keith Lee says it’s back to business; he’s done celebrating and now it’s time to focus. Lee calls out Dijak and tells him how influential he has been in his NXT career and grants him a title shot.

Damian Priest vs Cameron Grimes

A competitive match but most of it was controlled by Damian Priest. The Reckoning from the second rope gives Priest the clean win. Priest says he’s interested in who comes out the double champ tonight. I could see a multiman match for the North American Championship, with either Gargano or Priest coming out on top, hell maybe even Cameron Grimes if he slithers into the bout.

Shotzi Blackheart vs Indi Hartwell

I liked the offense from Shotzi, hated the work from Hartwell. Impressive my ass, if you’re gonna claim part of the women’s revolution, make some contact with your punches and be more fluent and crisp with your movements. Hartwell is still green but still has a bright future if she pulls it all together. Robert Stone and Aliyah make sure that Hartwell picks up a win to ensure that future.

Not even the main event

Dijak vs Lee [c] [c]

These two know each other so we’ll, they have told many stories yet there is still more to tell. Other, “rival” companies, just can’t put on a match like this,it’s not something within their already limited arsenal. Keith Lee is on another level right now. Lee didn’t have much trouble putting away a man that has pushed him to his limits in the past. Scarlett has a gift for Lee after his match and Dijak gets in Kross’s face, then he’s taken out backstage.

Io Shirai [c] vs Tegan Knox

I see now why Tegan Knox just hasn’t clicked with most of the audience, it’s just no real character there. If we had a Drew McIntyre story, that we could believe but the girl with the shiniest wizard doesn’t have a backstory. Io never looked like she was ever in any trouble. Knox played the plucky underdog well however. Io Shirai was overconfident at times but Knox failed to capitalize even though she did mount some decent offense. A late rally was just not enough to dethrone the Genius of the Sky. Dakota Kai blindside’s Io as she goes up the ramp.

Honorable mentions

  1. Thatcher vignette teaches the same lesson he taught Oney Lorcan at GAB.

  2. Legado del Fantasma are in a Lucha Underground style vignette that really set the stage for the cruiserweight division.

  3. Denzel Dejournette makes things interesting against Thatcher but eventually tapped to a half crab.

Final take

No other show I’d rather watch. Great title matches with excellent stories with future feuds budding throughout the show.
