Ripley looks better in every match she’s in, she’s dominant, feminine and fearsome. Kai looked strong but significantly weaker than her opponent which I think is a big mistake when building up a contender, doesn’t matter if it’s a heel. Mercedes Martinez interferes then finishes the job after Dakota Kai wins. The Robert Stone brand isn’t done with Rhea Ripley
Thicc Boi vs Shane Thorne
Great match, Thorne was very impressive in a loss. I didn’t see this one coming, didn’t know that these two were gonna give us something this good out of nowhere. Thorne might be a great heel to feud with Maverick, Swerve or Jake Atlas, someone on the rise that is getting a mini push.
Ridge Holland vs Oney Lorcan vs Damian Priest
The favorited Priest wins but it didn’t look easy. Lorcan was on fire but Holland was no slouch either. Holland is going to be a guy they can put in and have brutal matches with anyone and build their credibility up quickly.
Keith Lee [c] vs Cameron Grimes
Even in a loss, Grimes looked like he could hang with the champ. I would have given Grimes a super cheap victory and given Lee the win back with a quick restart but who knows what they have planned for Grimes. I’m thinking Grimes gets his hands on the North American Championship.
Tegan Knox vs Indi Hartwell
Maybe Tegan has a heel turn coming, she showed a little fire in this match that may suggest that. Hartwell is still a chore to watch, “impressive” is not a word that comes to mind with her. I was high on Hartwell after her match with Charlotte but she has been pretty basic since then. I think she just needs the right string of matches/feuds to get her where she needs to be.
Imperium [c] vs UE
The entire match was just a backdrop for the crazy ending with Pat McAfee and Adam Cole getting into a very heated exchange that ended with McAfee punting Cole, knocking him unconscious. Talk about a cheap shot!
Honorable mentions
Legado del Fantasma attack Breezango
Bronson Reed and Priest have a conflict in the parking lot that leads to a match next week.
Final take
Can’t wait to see what else they got planned for Takeover 30. There are plenty of matches on the card already but there will no doubt be some special moments added to make it a night to remember.
