NXT kicks off its special night in a special way. If you are a fan of classic wrestling, then this was a one on one contest you would love. Balor pulls out the victory after about 30 minutes. Balor is congratulated  by all, Cole gives Balor the Bullet Club salute which is too sweet. I feel as if Walter will have something to say about this new development.

Guess who’s coming to dinner

Tegan Knox joins the Garganos for dinner. Things ended as we expected, in disarray. Johnny Wrestling ended the night with a plate of spaghetti on his head as Tegan ran out of the house. I’m glad it was not a straight through segment, instead it was split into several parts throughout the night. We have learned more about LeRae than we have Knox during this feud, Tegan needs to fine tune her character and get people to really give a damn.

The Colossal vs All Day

I love it, Reed is being branded as an unstoppable force and he will be a world champion one day. Austin Theory has a bright future as well, he does things that others are still learning and he’s in his early 20s. The match showcased good young talent with some smooth storytelling. Theory looked to have had the match won but went to pick Reed up, big mistake. Reed picked up a big win over a strong competitor.

Roderick  Strong vs Killian Dain

Strong wins after Bobby Fish helps him out. Dain was handling Roddy pretty easily until the interference. Drake saves Dain when the wolves pick the bones, too bad Dain didn’t appreciate it and knocked Maverick out. This is all leading to the two becoming a tag team, which is fine with me if they don’t have anything else to do.

Rhea Ripley vs Mercedes Martinez

Two badasses tearing each other apart in the main event is what wrestling shows should be all about. Rhea really took it to Martinez, plenty of intensity from the former champ. Mercedes didn’t look quite as strong as I would have liked but the match was awesome, easily match of the week. Rhea Ripley was impressive in an important win over a strong opponent. I see Ripley back in the title picture but I don’t know if she wins it again.

Honorable mentions

  1. Shotzi and Shirai take out the Robert Stone Brand.

  2. Thatcher teaches film study.

  3. Kishida writes Velveteen Dream off of TV.

Final take

A great show as usual from the black and yellow brand. A strong champion may boost ratings going forward, the midcard is as strong as any other promotions right now with some emerging contenders for the North American Championship. I’d like to see Austin Theory hold that title for a while and elevate some talent with some great matches. It’s a good time to be a fan of the product.
