Fantasma vs Swerve Scott
Fantasma is still someone I think may win the whole thing but Swerve Scott pulled out a hell of a victory on NXT’s newest addition. Swerve Scott dropped a fire promo after his win over Fantasma. It could very well be Swerve vs Drake in the finals.
The masked luchas gang came for el hijo de Fantasma during the break but he wasn’t going.
Candace LeRae vs Kacy Catanzaro
LeRae has a new entrance, new ring gear, new hair, new video and WOW; she is literally the hottest talent on the block right now. She also has a new manager in Johnny Gargano who accompanied her to the ring and watched ringside.
LeRae beat the hell out of a former tag partner of hers. The Wicked Step Sister is one hell of a move, how the hell is any of that fake? How do you fake that? LeRae is someone I am looking at with great interest now, I’m all in on her heel run.
Newly Bros show
I like the attempt to bring comedy to NXT and the attempt to play off of the odd couple that is Thatcher and Riddle. Thatcher’s acting is bad but Riddle’s isn’t much better. The wake and bake reference was cool. At the end of the day it was an ok segment that was good filler. Imperium attacks the tag team champs and held the belts high above their heads.
Mia Yim vs Charlotte Flair [c]
Tim was pretty clunky, she was exposed on more than a couple of spots; great back and forth action though. I think a non finish would have been very useful here, there are plenty of jobbers for Charlotte to run through. Yim will bounce back but she needs to change up her style quite a bit, her matches have become clunkier and clunkier. I feel like the match was short, that’s probably because Io Shirai confronted Charlotte on the ramp after her match.
Drake Maverick vs Tony Nese
One man will get their first win in the tournament and one man may be sent home for good. Drake Maverick nearly got a pinfall a couple of times. Because Tony Nese was so overconfident, the damage he inflicted on Maverick wasn’t enough to put him away and Drake Maverick went on to beat Nese and keep his hopes alive, delivering a spirited promo after his win.
Damian Priest vs Keith Lee [c]
The match left quite a bit on the table but Keith Lee retained clean, even stopping Priest from using his nightstick to steal the North American Championship. I wanted more, I was expecting much more from these behemoths. I think Damian Priest really needs some signature wins because right now, he’s just an annoying pest to other wrestlers right now(kayfabe wise).
Honorable mentions
Dijak calls out Johnny Gargano and his new heel gimmick and picks a fight with him.
Karion Kross vignette tells us time is up and that Kross will be on NXT.
Dexter Lumis beats Shane Thorne.
The ref was in the way and almost caught an uppercut from Lumis. It’s a new ref but that is inexcusable. You can’t be in the way like that. At least she wasn’t in the way of the hard cam.
Final take
NXT really knows how to build it’s shows up to even bigger shows. Lots going on on the show, too much for one week. Perfect follow up and matchups to further stories and start new ones while developing characters, building them up to help them maintain sustainable pushes. Next week is going to be insane with multiple titles on the lines!
