Ember Moon vs Candice LeRae
The unimpressive Indi Hartwell was ringside to assure a victory for LeRae. The match was good but too much chicken shit heel act for me to really get into it. It did work well for LeRae though. LeRae won with the aid of Dakota Kai, Raquel Gonzalez and Indi Hartwell. The post match beatdown was upon Moon but Toni Storm came out to save the day….that is until she turned and threw Ember back to the wolves.
We ain’t dead yet
Undisputed Era put Pat McAfee on notice reminding the NXT Universe of who they are and what they are capable of. Kyle O’ Reilly steps up to take on Pere Dunne later. The UE has some work to do with their image but that’s what War Games is for; Undisputed Era has to win War Games to be taken seriously again.
The KO Show
The North American title has become a joke since Keith Lee dropped it. Kevin Owens brought a comedic element to the show which was fine but undermined the more serious moments. The North American title is a big deal and should be treated like one, instead, Johnny Gargano continues to play a fool. Why 0lay hot potato with the title when you can put it on someone like Thatcher and build another star? Seems as if Damian Priest is destined for the main roster so just let him go and stop putting him with Leon Ruff and Gargano.
Kushida vs Timothy Thatcher
Always a treat to see this style break up the monotony. Thatcher should be North American champ right now, putting some respect on the title instead of the clown show they got going on right now. Ciampa watches the match as Kushida squeezes out a victory. Part of me hopes that Ciampa loses just to see what they do with him, we all know Thatcher and Ciampa are destined to do battle.
Ripped Rhea
Ripley tells us how much she respects Io Shirai and that she is in NXT to stay, focusing on the NXT Women’s Championship. Rhea is interrupted by LeRae and a newly turned Toni Storm. Candice reveals that she has taken out Io Shirai and that Rhea Ripley is next. When Raquel Gonzalez brought out Io on her shoulder it was a huge statement for team Candice. There was noone left to destroy but Rhea so team Candice took out the former champ, standing tall by the end.
Honorable mentions
Legado del Fantasma relish in their dominance.
KO on commentary.
Blackheart vignette.
Balor promo.
Regal informs Grimes he’s in a strap match with Dexter Lumis at War Games.
Xia Li and Boa beg mystery woman. I really wanna know who this is and just how big of a role they will play.
Grizzled Young Veterans return, a much needed shot in the arm in the tag division.
Kyle O’ Reilly vs Pette Dunne is NXT at its best, instant classic.
Final take
I feel like the show was missing a star, it had star power but they were missing one, I suppose Kevin Owens was supposed to be that star. KO on commentary didn’t really do much, it kinda exposed the product and made the viewer ask more questions. As long as NXT continues be serious, it will produce good shows but they have a little more comedy than I would like right now.
