Drake Maverick and Killian Dain vs Lorcan [c] & Burch [c]

Maverick and Dain attack from behind, giving them a much needed advantage. I even thought the new tag team would see victory but no disqualification is the on stipulation you need when the titles are on the line. Drake and Dain looked strong and continue to gain momentum even though they’ve had limited success.

Swerve Scott vs Jake Atlas

A good idea to have the two number one contenders face each other for supremacy.

Swerve Scott is becoming more a heel each time we see him but like way more every time. Scott wins and celebrates in a classless way. Not sure why Swerve wins this match but I’m a fan of Atlas and Scott so I’m on board with a long feud stretching multiple PPV events.

Rhea Ripley vs Dakota Kai

Kai worked from underneath most of the match as Ripley pretty much dominates her the entire match. Raquel stared Ripley down from the ramp mid match. Ripley wins clean and Gonzalez comes down to confront her. A huge pull apart brawl breaks out and I am hyped for the match they are gonna have.

A Storm is brewing

Toni Storm says she’s coming for the NXT Women’s Championship in a backstage interview. Io Shirai goes to the ring to call out Toni Storm but Mercedes Martinez answers. Good to see Martinez back in NXT and feuding with the champ. Toni Storm may just pull an upset against Io if Martinez is in her corner.

Colossal

Bronson Reed squashes a jobber with stupid Godzilla lizard, 90s Godzilla at that. Reed has been missed, NXT’s depth dwindled during covid. With Reed back, we have more babyface challengers for the heel champions.

Ruff vs Thatcher

They better give Thatcher that victory!

Taking liberties with Ruff is exactly what Thatcher did but he also took Ruff too lightly. Ruff beat Thatcher on a fluke and Ciampa shows up to stop the post match beatdown when Thatcher attacked Ruff. I really don’t understand why we are getting this feud so soon. This is a feud you save for when a championship is involved. Ruff gets a rematch for the North American Championship so this win went a long way for Leon.

Tyler Rust vs Ariya Daivari

Malcolm Bivens already doing work on the mic, building Rust up to be a strong contender at some point. The midcard needs new blood so that others can move up the card thus, strengthening the entire card/roster. Best yes kicks we’ve seen in a while, Rust is no slouch, glad to see him get a quality opponent to properly display where he’s at and where he’s going.

Dream vs Cole

Cole wins a great main event. The Undisputed Era is still a force to be reckoned with. I still believe something is going to happen in the title match at New Year’s Evil but I’m not sure what, Undisputed Era just became baby faces, I don’t see Cole throwing that away to turn on O’ Reilly.

Honorable mentions

  1. Christmas with the Garganos and the Way

  2. Balor and O’ Reilly video packages

  3. Thatcher calls out Ciampa

  4. Boa and Xia video

  5. Priest vignette

  6. Lumis’ drawings

Final take

New Year’s Evil is getting a very strong build, this show went a long way in setting things up. NXT episodes always feel so full, that’s why it’s the best wrestling show on television.
