NXT Quick Takes 2/24/21

Lumis vs Gargano[c]

I just don’t know how I’m supposed to feel about either of these guys. Lumis is a great character but he needs to be involved with more serious talent so that it means more. The Way are cool for now but they all need to be elevated at some point, not just a joke faction. Gargano goes to sleep and Lumis wins a decent match. I’m just not sure where this is all headed.

Leon Ruff vs Tyler Rust

Well that match was supposed to happen however, Swerve attacked Ruff out of nowhere.

Swerve fucked him up pretty good and left, Rust seemed to be pleased even though he didn’t see any action.

Io[c] vs Zoey Stark

A non title match to see just what the newcomer has. Stark is at a level far above others right now, only long time vets have looked better in the ring lately. Stark is the shot in the arm needed for the division. I hope Zoe takes off and wrestlers like Shotzi and Hartwell take the time to perfect their craft on the backburner. Io wins a very good match. Toni Storm comes out to talk crap, I’m just not as interested as I should be I guess.

Kacy Catanzaro vs Xia Li

Love that entrance from Xia. Kacy has potential but she needs to have great psychology like Gargano in order to realize it. Xia needs to add to her character with more offense, more ring psychology, basically just have a string of great matches. The match is stopped when Xia stomps Kacy’s leg on the steel steps. Love the brutality from Li. Xia is ordered to finish her by her master Tian Sha and goes back for more.

Dain & Maverick vs Grizzled Young Veterans

GYV win and Imperium mock Dain. Looks like they are going to break up Maverick and Dain already. Perhaps Imperium will add to their ranks, that would be great for them, give them a fresh look.

Escobar[c] vs Kross

No DQ is exactly what every Kross match should be because this is the best he’s looked in MXT. I’m surprised to see Kross work so much better as a face, I’m not sure what they’re going to do about that but at least we know the guy can actually work a match. The entrance starts but Kross attacks Escobar outside the arena, great start to the match. Mendoza and Wilde are part of the match from the very beginning to the very end. Santos Escobar decimated Kross the entire match, leading to comeback that would make John Cena blush. Karrion Kross manages to beat 3 men and pin Escobar.

Adam Cole Bay Bay

Fake apologies always seem fake so when Cole betrayed Roddy, we all saw it coming. Balor tried to get in on the action but he got taken out rather quickly. I’m not as interested to see where things go as I thought I would be but there is still plenty of time for things to develop.

4. Msk attacked by Grizzled Young Veterans.

Final take

Good episode that moved story along nicely. I’m not feeling like NXT is doing it’s best, it feels as if they are waiting for some things to shift so that they can get back to business. NXT is so great that they can still put on a solid show every week regardless.
