NXT Quick Takes 2/3/21

Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez vs Kayden & Kacy

Double K are annoying but at least they have real personalities unlike Mandy and Dana. I really thought the babyface were gonna win this one, very glad they didn’t. This match was entirely too rehearsed. Spots just looked unnatural, I know they’re proud of themselves but they shouldn’t be. Hopefully Kai and Fonzalez win the cup. I’m also hoping that LeRae and Hartwell win instead of Shotzi and Ember but that won’t happen.

Austin Theory vs Leon Ruff

Didn’t see what this match did for Ruff, he’s a former champion and he’s losing left and right. Clean losses are running whatever push he had.

Theory wins, is nearly choked out by Lumis after attacking Ruff post match.

Lucha house party vs Legado Del Fantasma

Legado Del Fantasma vignette earlier set the tone. Beautiful match, spot heavy but great and lightning paced. Legado wins and they will face MSK. Fresh mic skills on display for MSK when they confront Legado after the match. I’m glad newcomers are showing up with their own voice.

Jessi Kamea vs Toni Storm

We should have gotten so much more from this. Jessi Kamea could have had a good match with Storm and still lost. Martinez interrupts, Shirai watches from the top turnbuckle then gets involved. I will be the champ coming out of Takeover but that match is going to be amazing since it is a triple threat match.

NXT gets Rated R

Brilliant use of Edge.

Dunne calls out Balor and Balor responds. Its Dunne vs Balor at Takeover but things just got interesting, Edge joins the conversation. Edge says that he likes the second W in WWE and that NXT helped renew his passion to get back to wrestling. He also said that he’s never had the NXT Championship, Balor vs Edge at Wrestlemania as the main event would be great.

Escobar[c] vs Stallion

Scarlett looking on from the balcony didn’t phase Escobar at all. Stallion is good, he won me over. He needs more muscle, more personality, just more…everything. Escobar carried him to a really good match very easily. Karrion Kross destroys Wilde and Mendoza after the match to deliver a message to Santos Escobar.

UE vs Thatcher & Ciampa

Wasn’t sure how this match was going to go but it sure was pretty damn good. Thatcher and Ciampa pull off a major upset and they are now my favorites to win the cup.

Honorable mentions

1. The legend of Tian Sha.

2. Gargano brawls with Kushida.

3. Edge has words with Kross in the parking lot.

Final take

The future is bright, Takeover is going to be amazing. Dunne and Balor will bring the house down. I, Storm and Martinez may steal the show though. I’m really excited to see what happens and I hope Edge is on the show
