NXT Quick Takes 5/25/21

Shotzi & Ember vs Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez[c]

Great match to determine a number one contender. NXT isn’t shy about its women’s division and they shouldn’t be because they are maineventers that can get the job done and turn heads. Shotzi is better, being with Moon has helped just as Shayna has helped Nia hide her imperfections. A match that Shotzi and Ember needed, also a huge victory for them. They are now headed back towards the title picture where they will probably lose and split up or something. I don’t like the way this team has been booked, the crazy part is Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez have been booked much worse as a team since winning the titles.

Dunne vs Fish

Fish is cool because fish is his last name, that’s what my youngest sons say and they are correct.

Fish works stiff, old school and I like it but it’s a little much at times. Not a fan of him losing this match although it was predictable. Lorcan tried to break his arm post match and he may have succeeded.

Mercedes vs that lucky jobber

I don’t remember that wrestler’s name and they didn’t show it so I don’t care. She needs to put on some weight or something, can’t be that thin in the business without it becoming an issue at some point; that’s just the way it is. Mercedes Martinez was stalked by Boa and she was marked after the match; I like the feud brewing. This could be a launching pad for Xia Li.

Million Dollar Faceoff

Dibiase gives Grimes some solid advice, sounds like a babyface turn for Grimes until LA Knight made his way to the ring. The way LA Knight listens and antagonizes the crowd is like no other, I’d love to see him feud with Miz. But right now, this is the feud we need. Does this mean that LA Knight is going to inherit the million dollar legacy?

Franky Monet debut

Love the music, it has a great level change in it. Love the entrance, its scream “star”. Cora Jade never stood a chance but Cora wasn’t flat out squashes so there must be some sort of plans for her down the line. Monet reminds me of Luna Vachon, Morrison could be Shawn Michaels & Luna back when that was a thing.

A female Miz with the in ring credibility of Morrison, that’s an incredible talent. If Vince leaves by next year she’ll win a Royal Rumble and be a reality TV star with her husband right after that.

Colossal champ

Reed’s first appearance as champ invites some u wanted guest. Santos wants next, says he cant relate to Reed’s promo, great heel work by the Emperor of Lucha Libre. I liked the little bit of comedy, perfect amount. MSK had Reed’s back when Legado attacked, setting up a six man tag and the title picture for those titles moving forward.

Balor vs Kross II

Love the stat of Balor’s win loss record just before the match. Kross and Balor are great together, wish they could do more but Kross winning means that Balor needs to move on and find another focus. I don’t know who will dethrone Kross but fans don’t care for his reign so it may end very soon. Cool Kyle could be the one to do it but there’s no way that character is going anywhere. Kyle doesn’t have a star body, he’s no LA Knight and I think that hurts the perception of him.

Honorable mentions

1. Love the narration, really feels like a sports program.

2. Thatcher and Ciampa call out Grizzled Young Veterans, GYV respond.

3. Hit Row vignette, Swerve is aiming for any title he can get.

4. In Your House in 3 weeks.

5. Walter gives orders to Imperium.

Final take

Classic NXT show. Feuds were properly advanced and set up. Title pictures got a little more clear. The stars shined as they typically do. The in-ring action was among the best in the entire business as usual.
