NXT Quick Takes 6/15/21

Shake-up

With tears in his eyes, William Regal addresses the NXT audience. Karrion Kross makes his way to the ring to tease Regal, work him into a shoot. Out comes Samoa joe. As Regal tries to step down and make Joe the new General manager, Samoa Joe declines the offer. Instead, Samoa Joe makes himself sort of an enforcer.

Imperium vs Breezango

Technically sound match from excellent in ring workers. I wasn’t expecting Breezango to win. I was expecting a post match beatdown from Imperium though. This story is stale, it needs to pick up pretty quickly because it doesn’t seem like anything interesting is going on. I’m still waiting on Finn Balor to resume his feud with Walter.

Kushida vs Mystery guy number 2

Trey Baxter is the mystery man signed to NXT that faces Kushida in this week’s open challenge. This is a good way to showcase the newest wrestlers signed to NXT. Kushida is a legend, a dream come true for these guys to be in the ring for a title opportunity against someone like him.

Kyle O’ Reilly steps in the ring to challenge Kushida after he wins and the champ accepts.

Frankie’s faction?

Frankie talks to Aliyah and Jessie Kamea backstage. She is stealing them from Robert Stone and its going to be awesome for Monet to have her own faction. I just wish there was a women’s midcard title she could hold, this would be great. More titles aren’t a bad thing, the booking of the titles is what matters most. Frankie is going to be a great champion, adding much needed depth to the already good division. It may be the best women’s division in the world but it needs more heavy hitters; Money is one of those hitters. Tessa Blanchard would be the heavy hitter they need to turn even more heads. This Frankie, Aliyah and Jessie faction is the first step though.

Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro vs Raquel Gonzalez[c] and Dakota Kai

Very competitive but its a loss for Carter and Catanzaro. A loss for Gonzalez and Kai would have furthered the story of them breaking up but I guess that’s on hold for a while. I want to see Carter and Catanzaro go to the main roster, they are good workers and qod make great underdogs for the tag titles. Gonzalez and Kai aren’t going to be in the tag title picture for long and they don’t need to be so I’m not sure why they won this match.

Thatcher & Ciampa vs Grizzled Young Veterans

Hard-hitting tag team action at its best. Not sure if Thatcher and Ciampa will actually get a title shot and win the belts but I’m not all that interested in them. I like Thatcher as a crazy heel that doesn’t need a title. Ciampa is such a stale act. He was so much better when he was cold and calculating, not yelling and screaming.

Honorable mentions

1. Io Shirai and Candice LeRae still got beef, now Indi Hartwell and Zoey Stark are a part of it.

2. Joe puts Adam Cole to sleep backstage (when provoked)

Final take

An eventful episode of one of the best wrestling shows on television. The Great American Bash is the next special event so we have a lot of building to do to make it a great show.
