Code Orange did great as the opening act for the show. The action started immediately after the performance.

Tegan Knox, Mia Yim & Shotzi Blackheart vs Candace Lerae, Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez

Some ladies shine and others fade into the background. Yim was lost out there, there were a few spots where she lost her composure. Yim has lost a step since coming from Impact and needs to go back to the drawing board. Shotzi and Gonzalez were the major players here. Blackheart and Knox hit a tandem move to win for their team. I’m really only interested in Shotzi, Raquel and Candice at this point. Those 3 are awesome, they’ve really lit a fire under the division with their work as of late.

Finn Balor vs Damian Priest

We knew what the outcome would be and we knew we’d have fun getting there. Excellent high profile match for Damian Priest to show how good he is. Taking a bump onto the steel steps is how you fill up your bump card. That is also how a veteran like Finn Balor gets the W. Damian Priest’s time is coming soon enough, I would like to see him face the Velveteen Dream.

Gargano vs Keith Lee [c]

Keith Lee looked like he was in trouble as Johnny Gargano broke him down throughout the match. Keith Lee needs many more of these matches, he seems…limitless and that’s a quality that’s great for baby faces however, he’s never really in danger of losing a match. Gargano will probably win the North American Championship from Lee but now is not the time, Lee needs a a longer run and Gargano needs to become a much more powerful heel.

Velveteen Dream vs Adam Cole [c]

I thought this was going to be the big one for the Dream, it was not to be because Adam Cole retained. The monster truck and Megan cosplay was a nice touch by both wrestlers. Dexter Lumis kidnapped Fish and Strong but O’ Reilly wasn’t present, a pandemic related absence I’m sure. The Panama Sunrise from the top rope was actually spoiled seconds earlier by Ranallo but was still spectacular, especially since it was done on a bunch of chairs ECW style. Cole has nowhere to go but down and so does the Dream, I got a feeling this may have been the first big mistake NXT has made in their booking since their existence.

Karrion Kross vs Tomasso Ciampa

It wasn’t a squash but it felt like one. Tomasso Ciampa was put to sleep by the newcomer. I don’t know what’s next for Karrion Kross, let’s hope it’s not Finna Not because that would be too soon for a feud of that magnitude. I’m hoping Kross targets Keith Lee and Lee moves to SmackDown with Riddle. If Lee were on SmackDown Roman would be dethroned permanently-ish.

Charlotte [c] vs Io Shirai vs Rhea Ripley

Great main event with an even better result. I thought Rhea was going to beat Charlotte, redeeming herself from Wrestlemania. However, Io had other plans, she moonsaults onto Ripley, pinning her for the NXT Women’s Championship. Wonderful match, Charlotte is really good when paired with wrestlers who are also really good.

Final take

The old school set and feel of the entire show was awesome, cool throwbacks to the good ole days. I would have switched up some of the results but other than that this was another homerun. The run-time was short and very sweet, hard to argue with a show that just gives you what you want and nothing more.
