Sacrifices of the Monday Night Messiah

Great camera work with the bright light shining over Seth’s head when the camera was between Seth’s disciples. Austin Theory wearing the Rey Mysterio shirt was also a nice touch.

Seth out together a great video package until the very end. Aleister Black had enough and started their match early by coming out and attacking Seth. Humberto stops the beatdown from the disciples. Aleister Black beats Seth and Seth is protected, that’s some really good booking by WWE. A great match that went the distance, everyone involved is doing a phenomenal job.

Later on…

Rey Mysterio updated us on his condition, Dominic chimed in as well.

A fighting champion

Kayla Braxton introducing Crews was a special treat for the NXT crowd/fans. Apollo Crews takes center stage in an interview with Kayla Braxton and knocks it out of the park. KO is the man Apollo chose to defend his United States Championship against, making Apollo come across as a very confident individual who isn’t afraid of anyone. A really fun and quick paced match that ended in a run in by Angel Garza and Andrade.

Owens then challenged Garza to a tag match during break and now it’s a tag match. After an intense match, Apollo picks up the win by pinning Andrade once again.

Zelina Vega looks amazing every single week…except this week. I don’t know what she was wearing but her and her hair looked ridiculous. I think she was supposed to be Baby Spice but I’m not sure.

Nia Jax vs Kairi Sane

Sane carried Jax to a good match as expected.

When Nia threw Kairi into the steps there were a couple of students that looked on in shock. These are trainees that know how these things work and they looked horrified, let that sink in. Who knows what will happen to Nia after her match with Asuka. Jax has actually been booked very well since her return so I think she’ll remain among the top competitors in the women’s division. Kairi isn’t booked strong but she still has a great amount of credibility so a win over her goes a long way.

Nikki Cross [c] vs Billie Kay

Lots of cuts to Alexa in this match, that’s pretty insulting if you ask me. Alexa is shown enough already, what isn’t shown is Billie Kay’s Wrestling ability and I think that could have really been showcased here. Don’t get me wrong, Kay getting the victory is pretty significant, just wanted more.

Bowling for laughs

The Street Profits really do commit to these segments and the Viking Raiders’ commitment has really sold me on all of this. A cool way to fill time each week, adding quite a bit of depth to the Viking Raiders as well.

Asuka [c] vs Charlotte [c]

Asuka and Charlotte always do a good job in the ring against one another. Great submission sequences and storytelling by both champions. Nia Jax mocks Asuka’s entrance and attacks her to abruptly stop the match between the two champions.

Drew McIntyre [c] vs MVP

MVP checks Lana again and crushes her in the process, getting slapped for his troubles. Drew walked right through MVP in their match but Bobby Lashley who had been ringside, made sure the last image we saw on Raw was Drew McIntyre in the Masterlock.

Honorable mentions

  1. Byron Saxton looked like the Rock for a quick second.

  2. Shawn Michaels gives his predictions for Edge vs Orton.

  3. R Truth recaptures the 24/7 Championship.

  4. Orton promo.

  5. Free version of WWE Network is promoted, an excellent idea everyone should take advantage of.

Final take

Great work by the announce team. No part of the show was skippable and everything felt like it had purpose. Raw is on a roll, with very strong characters, with strong character development. Stories are fleshed out, making them feel exciting, emersion is easy when the show is clicking on all cylinders.
