Samoa Joe presided over the signing of a contract and managed to keep his cool while dressing down Seth Rollins. Dominik Mysterio came to the ring with a kendo stick but that was probably a terrible idea because he received 30 lashings from Rollins and Murphy, after Humberto lost to Seth.
Prophecies
Dawkins gets the W over Andrade which is pretty ridiculous. Andrade is a top tier wrestler and that just shouldn’t happen. I understand that Garza and Andrade are probably going to win the titles but this loss is just unnecessary.
Vega vs Belair
After Andrade took a loss, Zelina followed suit. Clunky at best, the match was a step back for Bianca who needs to be careful about her role on RAW. Zelina is super slow bit she is the veteran in the match so I’m confused as to who was to blame for how crappy it was. Vega needs better gear as well.
An interview afterward was to let Andrade and Garza know that Montez Ford will be ready to go by SummerSlam.
Shelton Benjamin vs Apollo [c]
Shelton wins with a distraction finish but that didn’t take anything away from the match they had. Benjamin hasn’t looked this good in years, perfect opponent for Apollo. MVP saves Apollo, telling Lashley not to hurt him because he wanted him healthy for SummerSlam. Apollo is doing great work right now, I can’t wait to see who his next feud is with.
Liv Morgan vs Peyton Royce
Royce wins with her finisher after Ruby Riott interferes and Liv Morgan pays for it. I suppose the story they are telling is Liv turning on Ruby but I just don’t care at the moment. Ruby looks terrible, she barely wins and she is no longer the leader of a faction. She isn’t a sympathetic figure, just a loser. Liv is not doing too much better.
RAW Underground
Riddick Moss was sloppy but he got the win. That fight was weak but the rest of Underground was cool. Shayna Baszler destroyed three people at once and it was epic. Great way to showcase Baszler and give her something to do that reminds you that she’s a badass.
Asuka vs Bayley [c]
The Empress of Tomorrow is undefeated in singles competition against her fellow grand slam champion. Regardless of what happens at SummerSlam, Asuka is made. Asuka was doing stuff I’d never seen before and Bayley is as smooth in the ring as ever; classic match. Watch this match, it was great because two of the greatest wrestlers did what they do best.
KO vs Orton
If you want to know what wrestling needs more of, it’s these types of matches from veterans. It was predictable but so what, that’s good sometimes. Orton gave an amazing promo followed by Ric Flair. Flair is still so compelling on the mic and it’s not really a surprise but still so amazing to see. Ric Flair was punted into oblivion for his troubles.
Honorable mentions
Mickie James returns just to talk shit to Natalya backstage. Poor use of her, should have done it in front of the camera, in the middle of the ring in the VIP Lounge, not an interview backstage.
Drew promos in an interview.
R Truth disguised as a ninja rolled up Tozawa for the 24/7 title.
Final take
Another great show that is building good momentum heading into SummerSlam with two stars headlining who are doing some impressive work right now.
