Raw Highlights 2-24-20
Angel Garza vs Humberto Carillo
For the first time ever on Raw two cousins do battle… maybe the first time. The back and forth action was enough to get the crowd behind them. There were some spots only they could do and they were brilliant. Garza is in a good spot, that puts Carillo in a good spot as well. The feud is far from over, who the hell wants it to be anyway? Not a fan of the Zelina Vega and Garza being teased as a couple thing but let’s see where it goes.
Ricochet vs Luke Gallows
The fog machine WWE brought out for ricochet’s entrance was pathetic but luckily it did not detail his momentum heading into Saudi’s Super Showdown on Thursday. Luke Gallows took it to Ricochet, forcing WWE’s resident superhero to dig deep for the win.
Aleister Black vs Erick Rowan
Luke Gallows’ loss lead to an agitated AJ Styles to pick on Aleister Black backstage as he prepared for his match.
Didn’t think the story being told would be told quite so well. A lengthy match that made Rowan look very dominant in defeat and Black came off as one who defies the odds and overcomes them out of sheer willpower. The post match interview on the stage was great, Sarah Schreiber did a good job as well, reminded me of the XFL and it’s sideline interviews. Aleister Black said what he was going to do in plain English, making it hit home in a way that makes him far more relatable than he has been.
Truth TV
Bad idea to go from one talking segment to another. Comedy with R Truth is the way you want to go for a decent transition. Truth had a good showing against Lashley before being put away with the spear. I wish there was a set for Truth TV or at least a different location, maybe a locker room area sort of thing with a camera man, something different. I would be interested in an R Truth vs Bobby Lashley died though.
Sign the damn contract
Asuka snatched the mic from Jerry Lawler to point out that Shayna Baszler was not present. Lawler was an unusually good moderator for this segment, getting the hell out of Dodge when Shayna Baszler finally arrived. Everyone broke off into their own separate rivalries while Shayna stood back and watched. Not to be outdone, Becky Lynch showed up to get herself a piece of Shayna. Everyone signed the contract at least; this segment is how they should do contract signings from now on; make them make sense.
Prophets and Messiahs
I hate forced comedy from the street Profits even when it does work and get over with the crowd. Dawkins vs Murphy was the scheduled match. Love the talk about their NXT history on commentary, it gave much needed context to this match. Seth gets Murphy disqualified and is called out by Montez Ford. Another lengthy match and the most important match in Ford’s career. Ford lost a very close match where he took Rollins to by surprise with his athleticism.
KO vs Orton
At the top of the show, Orton still can’t explain himself so Kevin Owens offers a solution; fight.
The match is made and set as the main event, like 30 seconds in Seth and the gang show up, eventually becoming the distraction Orton needed to take control of the match. Kevin Owens was on a roll and ready to wrap it up when the referee ended the match with a very quick 3 count; the crowd was livid. It is later revealed that the ref had on a Monday night Messiah shirt and is a disciple of Seth’s. Kevin Owens teases a chair shot, putting the guy through a table instead. Seth has been nothing short of majestic with his acting on the stage. Shouting that the ref was a good person just as the show ended.
Honorable mentions
A very real sit-down interview where Drew took up through his WWE journey from the beginning to his new beginnings.
In closing
Hot crowd, plenty of signs in the crowd. Super Showdown isn’t in the way like it was last time, things feel like they are integrated pretty well into the necessary storylines.
