VIP Lounge is the only thing open these days
MVP has the MITB competitors on his show to discuss their upcoming match. Rey Mysterio, Aleister Black and Apollo Crews barely get a word out before Zelina crashed the party with her party. The ensuing brawl prompts a 6 man tag, the first one in months and I’m not really counting the ones at the beginning of the pandemic when. They were absolutely necessary, maybe they still are, who knows. Crews gets some cred and pins the United States Champion.
Backstage, Apollo and Andrade exchange words then Crews slapped the shit outta Andrade and with that single act Apollo gained a mountain of respect back from the WWE Universe. Crews brags that he can pin Andrade again and the match is made.
What!?
Asuka is among the best wrestlers in the world, I’d be careful about putting her in the ring with Nia Jax because if Nia were to shoot then Asuka would shoot and Nia would get shot. Much of the same can be said for Shayna Baszler so why was this segment done in this manner? Nia Jax takes out both of these fierce competitors and her music hits before anyone knows what the hell is happening.
Nia portrays crazy well and it works well in her segments but the in ring ability isn’t there and that’s a problem when she’s opposite Shayna and Asuka.
Long live Morgan
Ruby Riott is granted a rematch. Good match
smart booking, give Liv the definitive win over a rival who’s highly skilled. Morgan’s interview seemed sincere, though something was missing. I don’t know what position Liv will be put in but I hope she ends up with Seth at some point, that seems like such a great move given her recent history, revealing how vulnerable she had been before. Being a babyface challenger for a hell champion like Shayna Baszler is more likely where she will end up.
Who wants the smoke?
Viking Raiders want the smoke, although they have plenty in the boiler room they film their promos in. Viking Raiders are still cartoon characters but my kids like that, I was in the middle of skipping their promo but my kids actually like them. I’m glad I didn’t skip the promo because they got pretty serious and they are gunning for a team that hasn’t beat them, the team that currently holds the Raw Tag Team Championships. So the Street Profits responded and got serious, issuing a challenge to the Viking Raiders for next week.
The return of the Modern Day Maharaja
Jinder Mahal is back and looking ripped but a bit slimmer, he’s got more lean muscle. One of my favorite champions in recent history, Jinder Mahal has finally returned and it won’t be long until he is in the main event. He also had and exclusive interview later, revealing his plans to be a mainevented again.
Andrade[c] vs Apollo Crews
Hell of a match, I thought the United States Championship was going to change hands but a knee injury prevented Crews from continuing the match. Hate the shitty way that match ended, just let Andrade beat him clean, is Apollo out of money in the bank now? So later on we find out that Apollo is written out of everything with a BS injury. Just when he was getting pushed he is booked into obscurity again. Or maybe this is what turns him heel and has him join MVP, in a “if you can’t beat em join em” sort of heel turn.
Ricochet & Cedrick Alexander vs Ever-Rise
A little too quick for both teams, Alexander need to show more, more more more. Shane Thorne and Vink are now managed by MVP and reintroduced as opponents for Rico and Alex. I like the midcard feuds right now and this makes a ton of sense and gives people things to look forward to other than the main talent every episode.
Contract signing
In these times what else are they gonna do?
Drew calls Seth on his shit as Seth dodges a Claymore and Murphy is the unlucky recipient. Short and sweet segment with believable results.
Honorable mentions
Samoa Joe is back on commentary.
Bobby Lashley makes Lana stay i
Bobby Lashley beats a jobber while Lana stays behind.
Final take
Got a glimpse of the rooftop of WWE headquarters and I think I prefer all my rooftops with gardens and rings on them from now on. I enjoyed the episode, it wasn’t as great as recent weeks but it certainly had purpose, furthering tons of stories as well as delivering on solid matches.
