Raw Quick Takes 6/28/21

While the Viper’s away…

Riddle sweet talks the General managers to let him represent Randy Orton since Orton isn’t present for Raw[not stated why].

Gulak, Shelton, Ali, Jinder, Garza, Mansoor, Jeff Hardy, Cedrick Alexander, Damian Priest, Viking Raiders, Humberto, Tozawa and R Truth all get the same chance as Riddle to compete for a spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match. Gulak pins Tozawa after he is eliminated which starts a chain reaction of title changes. Omos helps eliminate both Viking Raiders then assaults them. Priest and Riddle put on a banger as the last 2 in the match.

I can’t wait until Randy and Riddle go sour and have an instant classic at a big PPV. Riddle has been doing such a good job at mirroring Orton’s moves. I’d like for his heel gimmick to be Task Master.

Nikki vs Shayna

Nikki wins with an assist from Alexa. Again, Shayna loses while Nia Jax is untouched. Jax should be taking pins, she has a very limited range in the ring. Shayna is someone you can get a lot of mileage out of so just do it. The match was fine but it didn’t really matter, it was the stuff with Alexa that was the real focus.

Face to face

Kofi was spitting facts about his journey and MVP. Best promo I ever heard from Kofi, MVP let him shine without stealing the spotlight. Maybe Woods turns and Kofi moves to SmackDown. All I know is that trouble is brewing; there will be a big twist at the end of this story.

Eva Marie & Dourop vs Naomi & Asuka

Doudrop beats Asuka and Naomi without even tagging. Eva tried to leave her high and dry the same way she was left last week but it didn’t work. Say what you want but Piper Niven is being built up very strong and will be the biggest threat to Rhea Ripley moving forward.

Ricochet vs Morrison

Please please please keep Miz, Morrison and Ricochet in a feud for a while. Lots of personality from Ricochet in the backstage segment. Great match that didn’t need an ending, they should never finish any of their matches just find new ways to make it a draw. Ricochet is unbelievable, Vince has to be impressed with what he saw with him on this show.

6 woman tag

Dana Brooke, Mandy Rose & Rhea Ripley[c] vs Tamina[c], Natalya[c] & Charlotte

Started with a brawl, ended with a match, I like that. Finally a multi woman match that worked well. Charlotte gets the pin for her team, another W she doesn’t need and another L someone else doesn’t need. Charlotte should have been pinned, she hasn’t been pinned since she was feuding with Becky (I believe that’s how long its actually been).

Rhea attacks Charlotte after the match. This feud is good, the character development makes sense, the best Charlotte has had, the only character development she has ever had actually.

Get the strap

Ryker vs Elias

Ryler looks the part and sounds good but audiences will still hate him when they see him. R Truth got him over in a comedy segment while Ryker still looked crazy, that’s awesome. They changed Elias’ music again and it doesn’t fit him. This was a good strap match. They didn’t do too much and they used the strap, not had a match around a strap.

Last chance

Riddle vs McIntyre vs AJ Styles

Riddle put in WORK. Should have been Riddle that won but Drew gets ANOTHER shot at claiming a title. If he wins I hope he chooses Roman Reigns and beats him. The problem is where would SmackDown go from there? Drew was champ for a year, he’s had his time, he should have went away for a while, he shouldn’t be in another high profile match right now. Drew McIntyre, as great as he is and has been, is over exposed.

Final take

The show went much faster than it usually does, it actually flowed the way SmackDown does. There is still a long way to go to get people talking and saying positive things about the show again but this is a good step. While I like the show, it has not been as good as it can be.
