Jeff Hardy addresses his demons
It is exactly what we thought, Hardy was set-up. Every time someone is arrested WWE never explains how they got out and Jeff Hardy took is step by step of how his name was cleared, excellent attention to detail. Sheamus confronted Hardy over his allegations. Sheamus calls Hardy a junkie then ends it with a Brogue kick and an ass whooping.
Otis vs Baron Corbin
Earlier, Otis took King Corbin’s crown and now they’re fighting. Otis wins via DQ in a decent match that made Otis look very credible. Corbin and Otis sounds like a good midcard feud right now. Otis can be involved in some comedic segments with Corbin while they figure out what to do with his briefcase.
Run it back
Lacey Evans is attacked from behind by Sonya DeVille before the match starts, verbally attacking Evans as well. The mean streak of Sonya DeVille has elevated the entire division. Lacey Evans looks the best she’s ever been when she shares the ring with Sonya. Mid way through the match the referee is taken out and replaced due to injury. Mandy distracts Sonya on the titan tron and she is laid out with a Woman’s Right.
Shorty G & New Day [c] vs Mojo Rawley, Cesaro & Shinsuke
The faces win with Mijo taking the pin, I think the result is all wrong, the heels on SmackDown have lost a lot lately. I believe Bayley is the only heel that isn’t losing in every match. Build some credible heels to come in, kick some ass and be a real threat to someone.
Bryan and Styles face to face
Renee Young host this meeting of the minds between two of the best to ever do it in the ring. The promos were good although I found them to be a bit unoriginal.
AJ Styles gives Drew Gulak a handout and Gulak steals one from the Phenomenal One. So I liked the impromptu match, the result was not favorable though, if AJ Styles doesn’t win the IC title then he’s just another loser heel that takes too many losses to absorb them all.
Nikki Cross [c]& Alexa Bliss [c] vs Sasha & Bayley [c]
New Champs! Really unexpected since Backlash is right around the corner. Alexa Bliss should have taken the pin but perhaps this leads to a breakup between Cross/Bliss. Nikki Cross is a good hand while Alexa has had some good matches lately so I’m curious about this move. Bayley is now a double champ, an annoying one but that’s the whole point and she continues to do good heel work.
Honorable mentions
Miz & Morrison prank Braun Strowman. Braun sells segments very well so this was entertaining.
Final take
Not quite as eventful as last week still, there were some strong storylines furthered with solid execution.
