King Corbin gives Elias the Double Dragon

It’s good that Corbin finally got his hands on Elias but having a camera below Elias took all of the surprise away, he clearly didn’t fall backward like that cuz he’d be pretty banged up and bloody. The balcony needs to be used in a variety of ways on these shows, not just having people fall off of it.

Alexa Bliss vs Asuka [c]

Nikki Cross was the real MVP on commentary, her energy was exactly what’s needed for empty arena shows. Michael Cole and Nikki Cross was great, Cole was super irritated with Cross being in his space. Meanwhile Bliss looked just as undeserving of a win over Asuka as I thought. I have graded Bliss on a curve for quite some time now, no more.

Drew Gulak vs Shinsuke Nakamura

The roll up victory on the slight interference was a cool call back to something that happened in the match and on commentary. They didn’t go all out however, it was still an entertaining match. Shinsuke Nakamura needs to continue having matches like this, this is midcard stuff but if done properly might elevate to main event stuff. Daniel Bryan and Shinsuke Nakamura have mainevented and won big PPVs before, it’s not out of the question.

Tamina takes down the competition

As much respect as I have for Tamina the WWE must be desperate to bring her in, especially as some sort of credible-powerhouse-difference making athlete when they haven’t given her a serious push or any significant victories throughout her entire career. There was a time they should have put the belt on Tamina but they didn’t and that hurt her perception going forward quite a bit.

Love triangle

This is how Otis gets his solo push, whatever happens with him after that is up to how he handles his push and how the crowd receives it. Sonya and Dolph have it in for Otis while Mandy looks like an idiot despite saying she doesn’t want to be fought over like a prize while being perfectly ok with the match. This is far less interesting than the Rusev/Lana/Lashley story, with far less interesting characters.

The New Day vs Usos

I liked the breaking news from Michale Cole and I’m very much looking forward to the triple threat ladder match for the tag titles. I do not see the New Day or Usos winning because of that, I have less interest in a Wrestlamania match with these teams than normal.

Honorable mentions

  1. Bray challenges Cena to a Firefly Funhouse match.

Final take

Get the fuck outta here with this show. If you thought SmackDown couldn’t get any worse, you were wrong. Of course there are some really good things about the show, the tag division is strong, Drew Gulak and the undercard have grown to be quite dependable and Bray Wyatt’s stuff has always been good. I’m trying to go easy on these shows but SmackDown is everything people hate about WWE. With that said, there is effort put into the show, just not put into the right aspects of the show.
