Tag team turmoil

Yes, the title is misleading.

Miz and Morrison really should have kept the titles because they are more interesting than New Day and Forgotten Sons put together. Lucha House Party would be an excellent feud for Miz and Morrison if Miz. Morrison still had the tag team titles. I’ve already forgotten the Forgotten Sons’ names. Not fond of the lazy booking but I suppose I’ll be understanding about it this time. Looks like we are getting a multiman match for the titles on top of a multi man match for the titles.

Drew Gulak vs King Corbin

Corbin isn’t the technical wizard that Gulak is but he is good enough to hang with him in a match.

Interference from Nakamura and Cesaro put an end to the dream that Gulak would cash in on Daniel Bryan at some point. Corbin has to be the favorite heading into the MITB match.

Miz & Morrison vs Lucha House Party

Lucha House Party steal one from the former tag team champs. I like that LHP wasn’t jobbed out for no reason. The problem is we’ll have to see what happens to them next week, I am not confident that they will be built up to be contenders.

Lacey Evans vs Sasha

The match was alright but Sasha continues to lose. Sasha has a crazy fanbase that isn’t going to like Sasha being a loser much longer and they shouldn’t tolerate it in all honesty. Evans delivered two Women’s Rights on Banks to advance to the WMITB match. Maybe Lacey Evans will win and finally validate her push. I think there needs to be a change at the top, perhaps it’ll be Tamina and someone cashing in on Tamina and then Lacey will face them for the title.

Dana Brooke & Carmela vs Nikki & Alexa [c]

Clunky match. I liked the closing sequence, though it was clunky as well. The new tag team finishing move from Nikki and Alexa is really nice. Brooke needs a bigger push and she needs to retool her gimmick as she is pushed. I liked when she was a heel, she needs to flip with Carmella and newer, fresher babyfaces need to move to the blue brand. I was really hoping Bianca Belair would be a big boost to SmackDown but she is on Raw with her husband. Carmela and Dana getting a push is certainly the right direction to take though.

Triple H 25th anniversary celebration

Triple H not spitting the water was hilarious. I’m glad he didn’t celebrate alone. I didn’t get the bit they were doing until the very end but when I did get it, I appreciated it. Triple H certainly deserves a celebration but understandably so, this was not the time to do it. HHH should get praise for not praising himself because he always gets shit when he is in longer segments or a focal point so why not the other way around?

Honorable mentions

  1. Jeff Hardy tribute.

  2. A look back at Braun and Bray’s history.

  3. Sheamus squashes another jobber.

Final take

SmackDown continues to be on a roll. This was a weaker episode than the ones in previous weeks but it was still pretty watchable.
