Daniel Bryan vs Baron Corbin
Daniel Bryan delivers a spirited promo at the top of the show. Corbin comes out and gets his ass handed to him verbally before his match with Bryan. A really good first time ever match between these two. Both sticking to their strengths but Bryan picks up the win via Corbin being disqualified for using a ladder. The post match beatdown from Corbin was in jeopardy and he had to be reached by Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro.
Carmella vs Mandy
Mandy and Otis are interviewed backstage.
Mandy’s new gear is really cool and sometimes that’s the start of what takes you to the next level. Of course Sonya DeVille gets involved. Sonya’s change in wardrobe is also a great look for her and a much needed change. I wish Sonya wasn’t so much of a distraction because she didn’t put Carmella over very well. The post match assault on Mandy was brutal, if THIS is the level of physicality we were going to get, I wish that Sonya and Mandy had split much sooner. Mandy and Carmella had a good match even with everything that was going on, I only wish Carmella had went over a little stronger.
New Day [c] vs Forgotten Sons
Miz and Morrison on commentary were the best part of this match. Forgotten Sons get the win over the champs for more foreshadowing. The New Day got the titles so that they could do the job to Forgotten Sons but I just don’t care. New Day is so stale and Forgotten Sons never got over in NXT and I actually like both teams. Miz and Morrison should still have the titles and there should be various multiman matches until a live audience is available to crown new champs.
Ziggler vs Otis
Winner qualifies for the Money in the Bank match.
Sonya DeVille and Dolph Ziggler may be the best duo in wrestling right now, they have chemistry like Angel and Faith or Spike and Drusilla, if you’re Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan you know exactly what I mean. Dolph has been amazing with strong females by his side and Sonya makes him look like the Dolph Ziggler of old. That being said, Otis dominated Dolph from start to finish, minus the brief comeback by Dolph.
Honorable mentions
Drew McIntyre makes headlines for being a badass outside of the ring.
Braun addresses Bray
Firefly Funhouse tells the story of the “black sheep”
Sheamus squashes 2011 Kofi Kingston
Jeff Hardy series continues
Tamina is interviewed by Kayla Braxton and attacked by Sasha and Bayley but Lacey Evans had Tamina’s back and even the odds.
Final take
No fans allows the wrestlers to work the match they want to work and reset multiple times within their match to tell the right story in the ring. There are some good stories being told right now and there are others that are not receiving the level of care they deserve and the outcome is half-hearted efforts. Now all of that could easily be the circumstances of this strange new world we live in. One thing is for sure, ratings aren’t telling the whole story for wrestling right now.
