The Chief and Jey “main event” Uso kickoff the first SmackDown of the year. Kevin Owens interrupts and vows to do horrible things to Jey Uso.
Big E [c] vs King Corbin/Big
Two powerhouses doing battle is always a good match. The match was quick though, Zayn who was ringside, attacks Big E and its becomes a tag team match during the break. Blake and Cutler jump in so Apollo teamed with Big E; the two win the match. Miscommunication between Corbin and Sami leads to Corbin walking out with his Crew and Sami getting pinned by Apollo. Later, Apollo accepts Big E’s open challenge.
Tamina & Natalya vs Riott Squad
I don’t have many good things to say about the Riott Squad, that’s how the business is sometimes; either you’re hot or you’re cold and they are ice cold to me. Billie Kaye is now a manager and she is managing to get decent television time, that’s the best thing about this segment.
Sasha [c] and Bianca vs Carmella & Bayley
This is exactly how you do this type of match.
Reginald took a great bump on the apron, he looked like he was killed and Carmella pins the Boss. Bianca takes another L but its softened by Sasha taking the pin. That’s how you protect a push and still give a heel a win.
Daniel Bryan & Otis vs Cesaro & Nakamura
A sneaky good tag team matchup. The contrast in style was fun to watch. Shinsuke vs Dani Bryan needs to happen every week. Otis vs Cesaro is also a strong singles match that you can put on more than once. When that’s all said and done, Chad Gable vs Daniel Bryan is going to be match of the year when it happens.
Kevin Owens vs Jey Uso
Reigns was upset at the match being approved, ordering Heyman to find out who it was. Kevin Owens was in control from start to finish, winning easily. KO then beats up Jey Uso and is about to put him on the shelf for a long time when Roman shows up, saving Jey Uso. Owens is then beatdown all over the screens of the ThunderDome for his transgressions against the Chief and his family.

Final take
Great start to the year for SmackDown and WWE in general. So many developments of so many stories that are pretty interesting, cant wait to see what they do next!
