Rage in the cage

What a way to kick off the show. The show was prerecorded and still managed to bring the hear with this open6match. Usually they phone it in but this was not the case, a big change of pace from past years from WWE. Roman conti6to reign as Universal Champion but KO has a ton of momentum even in defeat. The spear has been protected until recently and I’m glad its no longer unbeatable. The old handcuffs to the cage trick worked like never before. Jim Cornette had to have loved that after hating much of what the business has become for years. A 30 minute instant classic of a match with expert storytelling.

Asuka[c] [c] & Charlotte [c] vs Bianca & Sasha [c] vs Bayley & Carmela

Any Charlotte segment is booked like an oldschool Diva’s era parade of wrestlers. The match was excellent though. Just plain ole fun. We new Asyluka and Charlotte would retain but the emphasis was on Bianca Belair.

Bianca really was in this for the run and she definitely got it even though she took the pinfall.

I liked the hair trick by Belair to save Sasha. Speaking of Sasha, if she keeps twerking in her entrance she is going to be on top of several list for everyone.

Daniel Bryan vs Jey Uso

An attack from behind gave Jey the advantage in this match. Daniel Bryan wins and declares his entry into the Royal Rumble. Jey should have won with some help from Roman as a show of gratitude for his help in Roman’s matches and Dabiel Bryan should have vowed to take the title away from Roman, declaring his entry into the match to take the title from Roman. That would have made more sense and been far more story driven. Instead Sami Zayn taunts Daniel Bryan backstage after his win.

Big E vs Sami Zayn [c]

lumberjack match

Street Profits get Samu a new shirt for Christmas

We all knew Big E was winning, its the right time in his single’s push to do so. Sami had to be a heel and be the one to hold the title since AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy are now on Raw. Sami needs to find a groove, a groove much like the one Seth Rollins found after losing his Universal title to the Fiend. Big E is going to hold down the title for a while, making all that face him worthy opponents, elevating them in each match.

Honorable mentions

  1. A new champ means new matches, new challengers and new stakes.

  2. I like that Charlotte and Asuka were on the show immediately after winning the titles.

Final take

a great show, I was expecting nothing but they did not take a night off, they delivered competitive hard-hitting matches. Three title matches in a night where they could have had silly gimmick matches is a testament to how much WWE wants SmackDown to succeed on Fox.
