Kayla Braxton is a delightful way to kickoff anything. She has grown quite a bit however, her delivery still sucks. Also, her voice isn’t mature sounding enough to take seriously. Braxton should host a kids music show. Roman Reigns and Jey Uso are interviewed but Kayla ask Roman if he’s scared of Kevin Owens and the interview is basically over. Great camera work with Jey in the background. Loved the ratings talk from Paul to put Jey over(not to be petty), Heyman promoted his client in a very good way, noting that he is an actual superstar. KO interrupts and doesn’t want to wait till tonight to fight but Roman declines.
Bayley vs Natalya
Great opening match two of the best to ever do it, too bad it wasn’t to be number 1 contender or anything. Bianca on commentary didn’t add much to the segment. Natalya wins kinda via distraction but much needed.
Big E, Rey Mysterio & Daniel Bryan vs Shinsuke, Ziggler & Zayn [c]
Really cool match, great action all around
Big E and Shinsuke were absent for a large chunk of the match though. Nice homage to Pat Patterson by Daniel Bryan during the closing sequence. Zayn has quietly doing some good work since coming back. He still needs to drop that title pretty soon.
War of words
Sorry, not enough meat on this one, Sasha and Carmella are ice cold. The acting was pretty good it’s just that Sasha not being a true babyface is kinda weird and I’m not rooting for her. Maybe if Sadha gets cocky and loses the title then regains it, it’ll make force her to be serious and be a real babyface.
Murphy vs Corbin
I’m very done with Corbin and the Mysterio family, have been since Corbin and Mysterio had beef years ago. With that said the two do good work in the ring. The problem is we all knew that this match wouldn’t have a proper ending. Cutler and Blake interfere and Corbin wins. I’m glad to see Cutler and Blake back in action, now it seems they have a plan and this will add some much needed depth to the tag team division.
KO & Otis vs Roman Reigns and Jey Uso
Both Kevin Owens and Otis had scores to settle with the tribe so they go to war. KO bashes Roman and meets up with Otis, discussing their game plan. The match went as we expected, Reigns gets disqualified. Jey and Roman beat Owens down with a chair, then Reigns turns on Jey after they beat down Owens. Roman gets more and more brutal each week but he needs to hit the point of no return.
Honorable mentions
Tribute to Pat Patterson
Final take
Quality programming, this show should win some sort of most improved award for 2020. SmackDown has not disappointed Since COVID-19, it has no signs of slowing down.
