SmackDown Quick Takes 4/17/21

Here comes a new challenger

Roman gloats about his accomplishments at Wrestlemania. Loved the way Roman didn’t even acknowledge Cesaro when he came out, he simply walked away. Roman has been a natural at getting heat, that was a masterclass.

Rey vs Otis

The story of Otis is being told the way it should be told. His former tag partner has no idea what he’s talking about on Twitter. Everyone used to talk about how big of a joke Otis was, now they are mad that he’s taking it all seriously. Fickle. Match was good, good loss for Otis, he’ll learn from it, getting his revenge will be a big deal for his character development.

Wrestlemania rematch

Sami vs Kevin

Sami Zayn called out KO

After controlling most of the match, Sami Zayn elects to be counted out. Sami needs to start to turn babyface again. Heel Sami needs to end soon because the character doesn’t have anywhere else to go. Owens needs to feud with Apollo asap.

Victory party

The new SmackDown Women’s Champion celebrates with her husband. Great speech, she was authentic and sounded the best she ever has on the main roster. Backstage, Sasha couldn’t speak but Bayley sure could. Bayley is a great first title defense.

Street Profits vs Roode-Dolph[c]

Dolph kicking Bianca with the hair piece, Dolph actually pulls it off surprisingly well. The Street Profits were never gonna win the ties back in this match. Glad ziggler won with the ZigZag because it’s a devastating move. When they split Roode and Ziggler they will have good programs for them so once that stuff lines up perhaps we’ll get new champs. I’d love to see the team split up and watch Ziggler go down to NXT and be champ, pushing developmental talent like its never been pushed before. Roode will be an Intercontinental Champion sometime in 2022.

Cesaro vs Jey Uso

Amazing match, Jey needed the win by hook or by crook. Cesaro outclassed Jey but Jey hung in there for the entire match. It appears Seth is not done with Cesaro so he attacks Cesaro while he was swinging Jet Uso. Once Cesaro dispatches Seth at Wrestlemania Backlash, he will probably be met by Roman spearing him, putting him into his place.

Honorable mentions

1. Michael Cole introduces Pat McAfee as the new color commentator.

2. Apollo and Dabba….never mind they changed his name, Commander Aziz. The Nigerian Nail sounds pretty cool though.

3. Shayna loses to Natalya.

4. No Edge or Db on the show.

Final take

Pat McAfee is a natural, he fits in perfectly. Roman continues his magnificent run as the head of the table. Challengers are lining up but their is still unfinished business leftover from Mania.
