Asuka vs Bayley [2xC]
Well, that’s a good way to piss me off. Bayley wins and I am no longer interested in what she does from here on out, they need to pull the trigger on some things and stick to them. The crowd was absolutely pissed for that result, the most they moved in the Dome. The biggest problem with all of this is that Bayley will be completely forgotten after her title reign. When this all plays out, Bayley will be back to where she was before all of this started.
Andrade & Garza vs Street Profits [c]
KO on commentary was a nice touch. I was one million percent sure that Garza and Andrade were going to win the tag titles. Now I’m not sure what is next for the Street Profits. Andrade needs to go to NXT along with Rey Mysterio and Garza needs a singles push, Zelina needs to be paired with Aleister Black.
Sonya DeVille vs Mandy Rose
Mandy Rosehad perfectly good ring gear, now I don’t know what she’s wearing and I don’t know why she’s here. Another shit ending, match was ok but the flurry from Mandy to win just didn’t make sense and Sonya looks really weak. Rose just isn’t legitimate enough to get a “high” profile win like that at this point. DeVille seems to be gone for good, if so, that is a real shame a d I really wish that match had a different outcome, so much wasted potential with Sonya.
Dominik vs Seth Rollins
Nice ring gear from both guys, smart ring gear from Rollins getting in the head of the Mysterios. Seth was masterful.
Dominik waves off Rey’s help several times and really ramps things up against Seth. Seth is amazing, I mean he made Dominik look like Ricochet at times. The selling and reading done by Seth helped tell a deep story. At one point Rollins even went for Dominik’s mother. Dominik lost but he did come close, close enough for Seth to mock and tease Rey as he Curb Stomped his way to victory.
Asuka vs Sasha [2xC]
Talk about taking some nasty bumps, Asuka was really taking some nasty bumps throughout this match, many of them unnecessary. Great closing sequence from both of these fantastic athletes and storytellers. Sasha’s selling was fantastic even well after the match. Asuka recaptures her RAW Women’s Championship despite the interference from Bayley.
Drew McIntyre [c] vs Randy Orton
Nice finish, too bad they had to keep saying we didn’t see it coming, we literally didn’t but they ruin everything. The match wasn’t special but they were holding back quite a bit. The story told was great but it was only a short chapter.
Braun Strowman [c] vs The Fiend
You won’t see it coming! Except some people called it weeks ago. Michael Cole saying this is not going to be a wrestling match is some of his best work in a while. Strowman throws everything he can at the Fiend but he couldn’t keep the Fiend down. The real story was after the match, the return of Roman Reigns. Reigns Speared and attacked both Braun and Bray, wearing a shirt that read “wreck everyone and leave”. Roman looked great, sounded strong and has the wrestling world intrigued…I have no idea whether or not he is a heel or face…
Honorable mentions
Keith Lee announced for RAW. I hope they move Mia Yim up as well and add some depth in the women’s division.
Apollo retains against MVP.
Final take
The crowd now is annoying when the volume is high but if you’ve just got wrestling on in the background and not really paying attention it doesn’t sound out of place at all. Great crowd participation unlike on SmackDown, the ThunderDome is definitely something more suited for big events. SummerSlam looked good and felt big/important. It kind of looked like a video game. Some hard hitting matches, Asuka, Banks, Rollins and Dominik to name a few. An impressive summer extravaganza.
