By the numbers:
AEW: 766,000 compared to 906,000 last week. NXT: 697,000 compared to 718,000 last week. -PWTORCH
Both shows took a hit with everything going on in the world of sports. AEW always has a huge drop off, it’s definitely a problem, it’s not signs of growth at all.
Tag team division
AEW
There are entirely too many 3 man tag teams on this show, I’d like it much better if there were championships to go along with the excessive amount of matches they crank out each week. Best Friends will get their shot soon enough, then we can start to look forward to a proper build to feuds within this division. Then we’ll move on to Best Friends and Lucha Bros which will be must see TV.
NXT
The Grizzled Young Veterans are at the forefront and it’s about time some other tag teams got a push so that there are contenders lined up for whoever the champs are after Takeover.
Women’s division
AEW
One match on the show this week and it’s a tag match. I hate tag matches in the women’s division because they needlessly put a loss on two people’s record for no reason. Shida lost clean to the champ for no reason at all, what a waste. I’m sure Shida will lose when she faces Nyla for the title as well.
NXT
Still got major players in the division that are getting a push and they aren’t even in title contention. The number one contender’s ladder match is going to be something you can’t miss as a fan.
Promos/vignettes
AEW
Moxley had a good sit down interview with JR while Hangman continues to grow as a character.
NXT
Tyler Breeze vs Austin Theory is going to be something that can open a Takeover. Charlotte is doing some great work with Rhea, Charlotte isn’t always good on the mic but she is bring her A game now.
Final take
Even though NXT is always going to be the better show, I can’t knock the noticeable effort to make AEW a more well rounded product.
