So now we know the Revolt is not a draw. When AEW gets it’s monthly boost it’ll be disingenuous and everyone will know it and see it for what it is.
Women’s division
AEW
So two weeks in a row the champion is made out to be a fool. First she is danced on by a jobber that got entirely too much offense in. The second week of her title reign, Shida is pinned by the greenest of green, Penelope Ford. Nyla Rose got a W so that’s good for her but Statlander gets an L, Statlander is the second best wrestler in the women’s division and is not framed like a threat at all. Statlander debuted well, something AEW is dreadful at, since then she has been an afterthought.
NXT
Dakota Kai is the first challenger Io is going to defend her new title against. There are plenty of contenders down the line like; Candice LeRae, Raquel Gonzalez, Mia Yim etc. Rhea Ripley will get a chance down the line as well.
Tag team division
AEW
Boy o boy where do I start? The Revolt is not feared, they’re not special and they are not a draw. The hottest free agents and perhaps the best tag team in the world is just “meh” on the WWE alternative brand.
“Some of the worst booking of my lifetime is happening right now and it’s disgusting.
So both Best Friends and Superbad Death Squad have title shots that they are both putting on the line this week? How are they both #1 contenders? Don’t worry, y’all don’t have to answer that because it’s stupid. Why aren’t they being destroyed over this horrible booking?!” That’s an edited tweet from me.
The Young Bucks don’t deserve to be near the title seen right now, they are ice cold. Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc are new to the title seen but they have been doing more lately than the Bucks. There is also no way in hell that two different teams would put their title opportunity on the line, especially on the same night. The reasoning for all of it is batshit crazy as well.
NXT
Indus Sher is on the rise while Breezango has had a resurgence and takeon Imperium. Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch have set their sights on the tag team champions as well. I would like to see a couple more tag teams on the rise though. I would create a tag team making fun of the Revival without being obvious, just to show them how I really feel but frankly, they aren’t worth that kind of time/energy.
Midcard title
AEW
Let’s just find anyone and let them have a match with Cody, even if they are not nearly as good as Cody and make him look worse. Marq Ques not only hasn’t even had any real singles competition at all so why would he be accepted as part of the open challenge? No Lance Archer rematch for some reason, no Colt Cabana or anyone else that was in the tournament, just random -undeserving people.
NXT
I think Walter will be standing in Finn Balor’s way when he goes up against Keith Lee for the North American Championship. Johnny Gargano may find a way to sneak into the match and make it a triple threat match which would protect both Lee and Balor and still put the title on Johnny.
World title
AEW
Simply put, if Brian Cage doesn’t beat Jon Moxley then AEW will be labeled as “monster killers”. They’ve built up some big men to be unstoppable only to stop them, making them weak in the process, no one has climbed out of that whole be successful yet. Hager has a chance against Cody but he’ll lose and be buried again. Cage has to win or the company is full of shit; period.
NXT
Karrion Kross is the perfect man to take the title from Adam Cole and that’s exactly what’s gonna happen at the next Takeover. Perfect way to build a monster heel.
Honorable mentions
Both shows seemed to be packed.
Walter and Balor are being held off and so are other rivalries, seemingly because of the pandemic.
Is it me or is the Mike Tyson/Jericho angle done?
Allie has been reduced to a storyline with Brandi.
Final take
AEW aren’t just green bookers, they are absolutely terrible at it. The number one contenders for the tag titles should be plain to see but something so simple was utterly botched. NXT has caught up to AEW the past two weeks which means AEW’s 250,000 faithful viewers will show up for the next show because it’s not actually about supporting AEW and acted that they think deserve better after leaving WWE. The “fans” just show up because “anyone but WWE” is a real agenda; the narratives are unbelievable out there. NXT isn’t perfect but they are untouchable when compared to AEW.
