By the numbers:
AEW: 773K
NXT: 707K
An actual surprise in the ratings here. I thought AEW would take an even bigger lead. I also thought that other returning sports would take a chunk of the audience away, that didn’t happen. The amount AEW viewership decreased was close to the amount NXT viewership increased so basically people just made sure to watch NXT this week.
Tournaments
AEW
There is a women’s tag team tournament and it is absolutely dreadful. There is no way they think that this is a good idea. In fact, they know it’s not because it’s going to air on YouTube. The rules are pure lunacy. Brandi Rhodes is the mastermind behind this and has spearheaded something that is completely unnecessary.
NXT
The North American Championship triple threat series has given new life to the brand and the title. Both Dexter Lumis and Bronson Reed are new wrestlers to be featured.
Title picture
AEW
Brian Cage was a one off as far as the AEW Championship is concerned and Moxley has moved on to Darby Allin. So Cage goes from machine to old news in a matter of weeks. MJF has announced that he will be facing Moxley at All-Out. I love where MJF is going but they are sacrificing two other wrestlers in the meantime, which is completely unnecessary.
NXT
Karrion Kross is going to get his title shot at Takeover 30 but the real question is who will win? Because whoever loses is going straight to the main roster.
Honorable mentions
Cody needs to stop having everyone job to him during his TNT title run.
Final take
A pleasant surprise in the ratings may lead to some very interesting developments. There is no real reason for WWE or AEW to change what they are doing right now, they both had a major win simply by not losing a portion of its audience.
