Kickoff show
Drew Gulak vs Cesaro
Damn that match was quick l, I thought they’d get like 20 minutes to really work it, it was still really good though, a technical clinic even with that small amount of time that they had. Cesaro surprisingly goes over.
Kabuki Warriors [c] vs Cross & Bliss
A good match but I would have given the pin to Nikki instead they paid lip service to her performance. As expected, Cross/Bliss wins tag team gold again. Nikki Cross steals the show from Bliss every time, she’s what Seth is to Roman at this point, Bliss is there to get the rub from Nikki’s efforts and hide her own inabilities. Bliss has become a little more consistent with her performances though. I’d like to see Asuka and Kairi feud with each other.
Corbin vs Elias
It should have been on the kickoff but it was much better than I expected. It also went on longer than it should have, swap this for Drew Gulak vs Cesaro and Wrestlemania would have been pretty much flawless. Elias wins with a roll up which is kind of boring but makes sense because of the interference from Gronk.
Shayna Baszler vs Becky Lynch [c]
Perhaps it would be considered unceremonious if Becky Lynch lost her title in an empty arena however, now was the time to pull the trigger. Becky is going to get a ton of backlash and it is time she lost so I don’t know where things go from here. The match was good, as expected to be, with Becky narrowly escaping. That makes a later victory by Baszler to be absolute and that would make this look more like a fluke for Becky Lynch.
Daniel Bryan vs Sami Zayn [c]
Loved the pre match stuff between Gulak and Bryan. Sami continues to go deeper with his Che Guevara look and tone as the great liberator.
Daniel dominated but Sami survived. I do suspect that Sami Zayn will lose his title to Gulak or Bryan or maybe even Cesaro. I can see Cesaro getting the IC title and running with it at some point or even challenging Braun.
Kofi vs Jimmy Uso vs John Morrison [c]
It was all on the line, the best tag teams SmackDown has ever seen, each man performed as if it would be their last shot ever.
Have I mentioned that John Morrison should be champ yet because he should be champ. Joh. Morrison could win the Universal Championship then feud with Miz at the next Wrestlemania. Morrison is on a level that is rarely achieved, he might be the legendary super Saiyan, I’m just saying. Shit got real in this ladder match, these men did not go easy on each other. Michael Cole got LOUD as hell during all of the action. What a unique finish, every team was protected with that finish. Outstanding booking, this match was also a last minute switch to a triple threat with these three wrestlers.
KO vs Seth Rollins
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. How great is Seth Rollins for his ring gear? He is a legend already when it comes to that, up there with Rey Mysterio and others.
Seth got himself disqualified, then challenged Seth to a no DQ match.
Kevin Owens got his Wrestlemania moment when he dove off of the Wrestlemania sign.
Goldberg [c] vs Braun Strowman
Universal soldier
Ironically Goldberg was in Universal Soldier 2. The monster among men has conquered Goldberg to capture the SmackDown exclusive title for the first time in his career after a few tries. I like this move. I firmly believe that Braun is the champion SmackDown needs, he’s always been more over than Roman Reigns and he’s a better Babyface with a wider range of opponents. Braun vs the Fiend is a great SummerSlam match or maybe they save it for next year’s Royal Rumble, the point is that it’s a better option than the Fiend vs Roman. Braun has worked his ass off and had many setbacks, now he is on his way to showing the world why he is in the pot he is in.
AJ Styles vs the Undertaker
Brilliant, simply brilliant. It’s pre taped so get out of the arena and do something different. This was so good that it was the absolute way to go even if the circumstances were different. The perfect way to reintroduce American badass Undertaker. WWE is undefeated when it comes to video packages
They made a short Undertaker film and it was dope. Ending was a bit cheesy but boy was that an excellent way to end a Wrestlemania many thought would be terrible. Twitter will love it and the ones that hate it will be buried.
Honorable mentions
R Truth makes an appearance and Mojo becomes champ once again.
Final take
Gronk and Mojo actually added a little something to the show but not much, they made it feel more live than it actually was so that was cool to watch the show and feel that the show was still happening in real time. It became clear that the finishes were in place to keep things going into SummerSlam but that was to be expected considering the circumstances. Overall the show did not disappoint and had one of the best endings to anything ever, that’s no exaggeration. Part 2 has a pretty high bar to measure up to.
