Finn Balor vs Fabian Aichner
Aichner had Balor beat until he tried to take him out with a knee on the steel steps. Aichner is a special talent, I like him going up against anyone, he has a chance of beating whomever ever is in front of him. Balor wins a close one and continues to set his sights on Walter.
Aliyah vs Xia Li
Is this a step above AEW’s women’s division? Yes. Was it a good match? No.
Both wrestlers are just super green. I do believe that both can be good wrestlers. Xia Li gets her revenge but I really wanna see Aliyah treated like more of a big deal just to have a stronger midcard. Aliyah needs to be on one of the Hollywood brands where her personality and character can be put to a much better use.
Swerve vs Tozawa
Really good match, Tozawa is an elite talent at all times he is good in any roll and this win was huge after jobbing for quite a while.
Swerve Scott was a heavy favorite to win the tournament so I was shocked to see him lose, especially in the first round. I personally want Kushida to win because I believe he needs a year long run with a title to show just how great he is, same way Pete Dunne held down the UK title for so long. This win puts Tozawa at the top
Knox vs Gonzalez
NXT will have big matches when they are due to happen, not just hold off until PPVs, that’s what I love about NXT. Big Sonya DeVille is a pretty funny nickname but Raquel Gonzalez is going to quickly make a name for herself. Commentary put Gonzalez over way too strong, it was so heavy handed that it soured me on the match a little. Teagan Knox stole one from Raquel Gonzalez with the help of Shotzi Blackheart. Shotzi has had her issues with Dakota Kai and next week we are getting a tag team match. I like Raquel Gonzalez a lot, I just think she needs to be a lot meaner, she still feels soft around the edges.
Dexter Lumis vs Tehuti Miles
Although it is an empty arena, it’s somehow even more silent when Dexter Lumis is just staring at his opponent. Good character building, Tehuti Miles really helped sell the character of Lumis. It was just another squash but I’m interested to see where they go with Lumis.
A date with the Prince
Adam Cole tells The Dream he’s not worthy and no shows their face to face. Velveteen Dream responds to Cole but Balor has some words of his own for the Dream. Dream ends an excellent segment by challenging Balor to a match next week. Some must see stuff right there.
Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher [c] vs Undisputed Era
It always looks as if the UE is going to leave with the titles. A huge spot for Thatcher to be in, especially for Thatcher to get the tapout from Roderick Strong. This was great for Thatcher, it displays both the depth of the roster as well as his own talent. Dexter Lumis was watching the match from the shadows, that was a nice touch of creepiness.
The better man
Tomasso Ciampa is done with Johnny Gargano but Karrion Kross is just getting started. As we expected, Ciampa has moved on from Johnny Wrestling and has a new nemesis. What an excellent debut, technically an after credits scene. The sky is the limit for Kross and Bordeaux.
Honorable mentions
Charlotte vignette.
El hijo de Fantasma had an excellent video package introduction.
Malcolm Bivens continues to push his monsters as the next big champs.
Keith Lee gets a video package detailing his history, his back story on how he started, his trials and tribulations.
Final take
It truly is back to business as usual for NXT, nice to see things back to normal at Full Sail. Everything is progressing so well despite current conditions, HHH is doing a hell of a job with his promotion, as always.
