Melo with the shot
Melo calls himself the final boss and leader of the new school, I agree with every word. He needs to loosen up a little in his promos but Melo has all the tools.
Gargano’s music hits and he challenges Melo. Gargano has nothing going on since his family started getting pushed so now he wants to reclaim the North American title once more. This match has the potential to be an instant classic. Lumis helps Gargano and I smell a tag team run.
Later Melo accepts the challenge while his boy is comedic relief. Trick is pretty funny, multifaceted talent is what we need in the business.
Imperium vs Creed Brothers
Malcolm Bivens is just going to have Diamond Mine take what they want, including tag title opportunities. I was really thinking that Diamond was going to take this but Imperium win due to distraction from Kushida and Ikemen Jiro. MSK attack Imperium and the crowd is booed like crazy for no goddamn reason at all. Just wait until they turn heel, it’s gonna be great.
Cora Jade vs Elektra
Legado like to talk their shit and that’s exactly what Santos Escobar was there to do. The match was ok,, didn’t mind it at all. Cora Jade is just lucky, a far cry from Darby Allin but has a million times more charisma. I don’t want Elektra losing matches this early to rookie upstarts but if it’s one thing Legado does, it’s build stories.
Triple threat winner spins the wheel
Io Shirai[c] vs Jayce Jane vs Persia Pirotta
Everything was OK until Jane got caught in the ropes, that’s the problem when most of the people are green. Persia has a great look and will be a great rival to the bigger women in the division but she needs more polish. Jane is basically not fit to compete on television just yet but Io cleaned up a lot of her opponents shortcomings. Io wins and spins the wheel and we are getting a “Scare way to hell ladder match!”
GYV vs Ciampa[c] & Breakker
Grizzled Young Veterans need the tag titles, they should have won instead of MSK. I would have put this match on first and ended with a live segment involving Mandy Rose and Raquel Gonzalez. Ciampa has to beat Bron Breakker and continue to build these young guys as be beats them. If Breakker wins I see NXT following a pattern that doesn’t look so good for the future. Too just too soon is a real thing and it just may be a big problem depending on how things go next week.
Honorable mentions
Vaughn and Kyle bond in the outdoors.
Gacy vignette with Harland.
Jiro and Kushida are going back to the future.
Duke Hudson’s poker room can be a segment that really pays off.
Briggs and Jensen are jumped by Legado before their match Anderson win.
Tony D’Angelo squash, pays off interviewer.
Mandy Rose and Raquel Gonzalez vignette. I like what I see, two different women with one goal.
Odyssey Jones beats Andre Chase.
LA Knight beats Waller to become the host of Halloween Havok.
Final take
The episode was packed as usual, lots of side stories advancing. Tons of micro segments that are the glue to this program. After Halloween Havok I expect things to slow down and focus on a few big stories each week. There is so much going on and the title pictures are going to be buzzing.
