SmackDown Quick Takes 7/30/21

Fighting words

Cena calls Roman out again, this time Baron Corbin answers the call and Baron Corbin is masterful. Begging John Cena to help him. Cena was great too of course. The segment ends in an Attitude Adjustment, a very long segment but very satisfying.

Rey vs Jimmy

Rey wins by taking a page from the Usos’ book. I’m seriously thinking that the Usos lose their titles at Summerslam and Roman loses his to Finn Balor shortly after at the next PPV. I think Dom and Rey win the titles back only to lose them to Alpha Academy in a couple of months.

Reginald vs Chad Gable

Reginald is living his best life as the 24/7 champion. We got yet another swerve when Otis jumped Reggie but I was Gable who was his opponent. Reggie won clean but Otis was pissed after he dove out of the ring.

Sign on the dotted line

Putting the chair at the head of the table, nice touch by the writers there. Roman had heard enough from Mr. Missionary which is what he calls John Cena. Reigns is on fire, his promos are actually great now the final piece to the puzzle. Reigns actually respects Balor and think he’s worthy of a title shot. But before Finn could sign the contract Baron Corbin jumps Balor and tries to sign the contract himself. Cena takes out Corbin and signs the contract instead. I wrote in my notes that they needed to explain that but as they came back from commercial break, that is exactly what they did in a backstage segment.

Another 6-man tag

Cesaro, Shinsuke & Big E vs Apollo, Dolph Bobby Roode

I understand that they have multiple people going for the Intercontinental Championship but do we have to throw them all into a bowl and mix them? I think this is because some guys are making a move after Summerslam so this is just a holding pattern until things are settled. I guess Shinsuke Nakamura is the favorite tobwin the title but he just had it not too long ago. Maybe it was like 2 years ago but it doesn’t seem like very long, he would look good with the title so why not. Why not give Gable or Otis a run. How about Gable has a short run then Otis and Gable betrays Otis or vice versa; all of that sounds good to me.

Sasha & Bianca[c] vs Zelina & Carmela

Bianca is celebrating her 100 days as champ with an in-ring interview with Kayla Braxton.. Carmela and Zelina interrupt, claiming they should be the one to face Bianca next and Bianca I jumped. Sasha Banks saves Bianca and hugs her, Bianca is as shocked as the rest of us but we see the writing on the wall.

Bianca’s team wins clean and Sasha Banks beat the hell out of her after the match. No surprise really, still pretty cool to see. Bianca is cool as a babyface but wears her heart on her sleeve a little too much, she was kinda pathetic when Sasha jumped her. Doesn’t matter, Belair is as good as they come in the ring so the Summerslam match will be off the charts.

1. Seth attacks Edge, dripping as usual.

Final take

Lots of swerves, we could see them coming a mile away but they were still very good and exactly what needed to happen. I am very happy with this product, they really can’t do much better.
