Summerslam 2021 Quick Takes

Omos[c] & AJ Styles[c] vs Riddle and Orton

Hot match to start the show, the crowd was into every minute. I’m glad we got a big payoff and RKBro are finally Champs. Riddle and Orton are great together, I’d like to see them go up against some really good tag teams throughout their reign, they have a chance to be as good as the Bar were.

Eva Marie vs Alexa Bliss

This went the way I thought it would; Eva loses and she is a pretty bad wrestler. Really no point to this match, should have had a pre show and put this on it. Doudrop embarrasses Eva Marie, even takes her robe. I hope this is the end of Doudrop and the beginning of Piper Niven, Charlotte needs a new challenger. I’m hoping they do good things with Piper.

Damian Priest vs Sheamus[c]

Priest wins a war with Sheamus to become the New US Champ. I like Priest better as a heel but I do like that they are letting have feel good moments because he really is a cool guy. Sheamus might face Big E if Big E cashes in on Lashley, that’s something I’d like to see.

Los Mysterios vs The Usos[c]

One of the best matches on the card. The Usos retain but there’s always a chance Rey wins because it’s Rey Mysterio. I don’t see the Usos losing the titles one on one, I do see them losing to another heel team in a multi-team match.

Bianca Belair[c] vs ???

Loved Bianca’s gear, she always does a great job. After some shenanigans with Carmela we were treated to the surprise return of the Man. What I did not like is the fact that Bianca was squashed. It was a Hogan type move by WWE. I don’t like hotshotting things too much. AEW itself is a hotshot. Becky got a ginormous pop though.

That new finisher ” the man handle slam” is pretty dope. She is Brock Lesnar status, she is a much bigger star than they could have ever could have dreamed of making Charlotte.

Jinder Mahal vs Drew McIntyre

Not much to say. They aren’t investing what they need to in these side stories, this could have been more compelling but we knew Drew was winning. If Mahal had won then maybe there would be more to talk about.

Charlotte vs Nikki A.S.H[c] vs Rhea Ripley

Rhea looked great as always but Nikki taking the pin makes her look awful, she has taken multiple pins from Charlotte as champion as is now illegitimate. All of that almost a superhero stuff is just bullshit, she has triumphed over anything.

Edge vs Seth Rollins

Match of the year candidate, that’s saying a lot but I think that is what we all expected. Certainly up there with the match Edge and Orton had a while ago. Ref Jess is amazing, she adds so much to every match she is in and she has officiated some very high profile matches. I smell a rematch because that was the best matches Edge has been in since coming back and they may want to give Seth his win back.

Goldberg vs Bobby Lashley[c]

I really liked this match, I haven’t seen Goldberg booked like this since WCW. I don’t want to see a part 2 but it looks like that’s what we are getting.

They really sold me on the intensity of this rivalry. The best part was Gage, Goldberg’s son, getting tapped out by Lashley after the match.

Reigns[c] vs Cena

Cena got nothing on Roman and we all know that now. Really good story though, I thought Cena was going to pull it off a couple of times. Great return match from Cena, if he can keep doing that once or twice a year then I like it. Cena wasn’t done getting his ass kicked though. The beast’s music hits and Brock Lesnar returns! Brock F5’d Cena after the show went off. Hell of a way to end your biggest show besides Wrestlemania.

Honorable mentions

1. King Nakamura is the man, he should be holding the Universal title with this level of excitement going for him. He didn’t have a match but he did get a Rockstar appearance.

2. I liked wwe Rolling out the Olympic champions, a really cool moment for them.

3. Miz and Morrison have a good time with Xavier Woods

Final take

I had to rewatch the show and it seemed much longer when I was watching it live but it was only a 4 hour show and that’s without a pre show so that’s pretty damn good. This card was packed, it was a super show for sure. The show was great, easily an A+.
