Main Card:
Thiago Santos vs Kevin Holland
A very fun fight to watch. Kevin Holland showed poise while fighting off his back and he was on it quite a bit. Holland needs to learn to talk less and fight more, he’s certainly entertaining but you’ve got to get serious when you’re in that Octagon. With that said, Thiago Santos couldn’t put Kevin Holland away because Holland is just that resilient. The defense of Holland, the way he moves is very dangerous for any opponent,”We will watch his career with great interest”.
Santos via uni. Decision
JJ Aldrich vs Polyana Viana
Lots if aggression from these two, the pace picked up mid second round with a nice exchange between the two fighters. Polyana Viana looked for a submission late in the second after her first successful takedown but JJ was able escape. Viana opted to pull guard in the third round however, she was unable to use it to her benefit. JJ Aldrich needs to tighten her ground game significantly because if Polyana had any more of a gas tank she would have finished her via submission.
Aldrich via uni. Decision
Renato Moicano vs Cub Swanson
Cub got caught with a perfectly timed jab in the 1st and was put away FAST after that. Cub Swanson is a jobber, plain and simple.
Moicano via submission
Henry Cejudo vs Demitrious Johnson(c)
Neither fighter stopped moving at any point during the first round. Henry Cejudo looked much more composed than he did years ago in their first encounter. Late in the second Cejudo scored a takedown and did about as much he could with 1 minute left in the round. Johnson continued to chop away at the legs in the third as Cejudo continued his takedown attempts.
Another takedown attempt in the 4th for Henry Cejudo but Johnson had been moving in and out all fight, picking the shots he wanted and picking Cejudo apart.
Cejudo was custom built to beat Johnson with superior wrestling and strength. Cejudo should have been far more aggressive, especially with his wrestling, in my opinion. Henry Cejudo stayed disciplined and was able to secure the victory over a man many consider, the best to ever do it.
Cejudo via split decision
Cody Garbrandt vs TJ Dillashaw(c)
Cody Garbrandt can’t stick to his game plan long enough anymore, after beating Cruz, he just fights with nothing but emotion.
Dillashaw via TKO (punches)
The first fight card I’ve watched in months. Holland vs Santos really stood out as something special. These guys came out and actually FOUGHT! Santos is a cunning fighter and what a debut for Kevin Holland. Cub Swanson needs to move onto Bellator and hope to revitalize his career.
The G.O.A.T. Mighty Mouse Demitrious Johnson lost and Henry Cejudo is your new champion. Cejudo didn’t do enough to beat the champ on the cards in my opinion but it’s certainly an understandable and respectable scoring.
TJ Dillashaw is going to have to beat Cruz at some point to cement his legacy and I look forward to that. Cruz will be fighting a different Dillashaw this time.
I enjoyed this card and really liked the way everyone fought, everyone fought their way to the end no matter the results, not something you see often in the UFC anymore.
