Today is the day and boy o boy this is a must see card!

It’s been a long time since we saw live fights and even longer since a card was this stacked. There are some serious stakes involved for many fighters tonight. Titles are on the line, reputations, even careers.

UFC 249 fight card

Tony Ferguson vs. Justin Gaethje

Henry Cejudo (c) vs. Dominick Cruz

Francis Ngannou vs. Jair Rozenstruik

Calvin Kattar vs. Jeremy Stephens

Greg Hardy vs. Yorgan De Castro

Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone

Vicente Luque vs. Niko Price

Fabricio Werdum vs. Aleksei Oleinik

Ronaldo Souza vs. Uriah Hall

Carla Esparza vs. Michelle Waterson

Bryce Mitchell vs. Charles Rosa

Ryan Spann vs. Sam Alvey

There are some fighters that can make a name for themselves as well. Oleinik, Luque and Esparza all have an opportunity to finish a tough opponent and move up the ranks. Greg Hardy also has a chance to turn some heads once again, though it is possible that a loss could send him tumbling into obscurity.

The biggest fights to me are Cerrone vs Pettis, Ngannou vs Rozenstruik and Waterson vs Esparza. Pettis is on the bubble while a loss for Ngannou and Waterson would keep them out of any title picture for the foreseeable future. Cerrone isn’t on the bubble because his best years have already been behind him for a while. While a loss wouldn’t be a setback, it still would not look favorable and may prevent Cerrone from any big money fights, main events and things of that nature.

The title fights just don’t strike me as important personally. I don’t think Cruz will win because of his cage rust and Ferguson vs Gaethje isn’t the fight we were supposed to get. If Ferguson wins then perhaps we finally get Ferguson vs Nurmagomedov, if Gaethje wins then I don’t know if that fight is interesting enough to make, regardless of who has what title.

Although I’m interested in different fights for different reasons, the excitement is there. Fighters won’t have a crowd to lean on to hype them up so we will see who the best fighter truly is. Commentary will be an important part of the show as well; strong analysis can go a long way to fill vital parts of any live event void of fans. Just grab a beer and taco or whatever it is you do when you watch fights, sit down and enjoy the ride!
