Face to face
The tribal chief and Cena shoot promos back and forth and the only thing you can think about is the first time they had a war of words and how out matched Roman was. Now, Roman has gained considerable ground and the only way around it was for John Cena to do his usual “over shooting”. See, Cena is one of the greatest ever on the mic but when he is bested he resorts to dirty tactics and brings up things that cross the lines of a worked shoot. I thought Reigns won this round, never ever thought I’d say that. He’ll. I didn’t think I’d say it a couple months ago!
King Nakamura vs Apollo[c]
The match was exactly what you thought it would be except it actually had a result. Usually these things end in some bs ending but this time it ended as it should, with the babyface going over and the heel suffering defeat. It’s good that WWE payed off the hard work of King Nakamura so soon because there is plenty of momentum going into his feuds and his push post IC title run. The midcard looks promising with this title change.
Street Profits vs American Alpha
I think I know why but I’m not sure why Gable is eating the pins. Profits win, Otis is distracted by Montez Ford. I believe that Otis will turn on Gable, blaming his weakness for their losses. The Profits need wins and they are getting them, they will challenge the Usos once Rey and Dominick lose at Summerslam. Let’s hope the Profits turn down the corny one liners and get serious, unlike their Monday Night counterparts the New Day.
Edited for TV
Seth has a stellar vignette about himself and buries Edge. This is the type of heel stuff we haven’t seen in a while, at least not done this well. I’m hoping Seth wins, I want Seth to evolve his character. Edge better elevate someone while he gets the win, maybe Apollo or Sami Zayn, who knows.
Corbin’s last plea
Michael Cole was cracking up but KO wasn’t laughing, he has had enough of Corbin. A confrontation turns into a stunner and a match.
KO vs Baron for $1000
It’s a ” help yourself match”
Damn good match, not even gonna lie, I’m very surprised it was so good, I just thought it would be phoned in. KO even had a special callback for the Rock in the finish of his match which was done very well.. Owens needs a big feud after this, a big money feud like someone on the level of Goldberg. I don’t know who they’d bring back but KO needs to go up against a legend the way Setb is taking on Edge at Summerslam.
Contract signing
I liked everything about this, from Sonya Deville mediating being a really cool touch, to Carmela and Zelina aligning themselves with Banks (at least momentarily).Bianca looked good but she got jumped then stretched out on the table to end the show. I believe Sasha is going to lose but this was a really good segment that makes Banks look strong. Bianca needs to work on her selling though, she looks too vulnerable and borderline cartoony at times.
Honorable mentions
Los Mysterios beat the Dirty Dawgs and get a message from the Usos
Final take
Summerslam is looking better every week and I’m excited to see what Seth and Roman do. I feel like both will have very important matches that determine the future of the Universal title. The midcard is solid with plenty of challengers waiting to test King Nakamura. The women’s division has its queen and she is holding it down. If I could change one thing it would be to add more women segments and add a television to the division. I want more variety and that’s how I want it.
