SmackDown Quick Takes 8/20/21

Brooding

Edge drops a great promo on the crowd, something is different about him this time. Edge has spoken of being dark before but this time I think he’ll be the age of old for one last match. The return of Brood Edge surprises Seth in a dirty shower on Seth’s white suit later in the show.

Rey vs Jey Uso[c]

They had Jimmy Uso up at first I’m not stupid, I saw it. Hot match, the crowd was hot for it. I don’t think the Mysterio family will be holding the gold after Summerslam. I’m curious about the next chapter of Dominick’s story, a story without Rey or maybe, just maybe, they wrestle each other.

Shotzi & Knox vs Natalya[c] & Tamina[c]

The name of the game is “pin the champs, get a title shot”. The rookies win but almost no one knows who they even are.Natalya looks amazing, very crisp after her injury. I want to see Natalya with another singles run, a great one this time.

Bianca[c] vs Zelina and then Carmela

Good way to bury both women without us taking them seriously. Bianca isn’t worth both wrestlers so why bury both? So much mileage they can get out of Zelina and Carmwla, they aren’t even trying. As good as Bianca is, she isn’t worth Sasha either. When I say worth, what I mean is you shouldn’t mortgage 2 acts or your top female act for her. You shouldn’t mortgage any talent but I especially hate 2 for 1s. Each talent is worth a lot so let the champ be worth something without belittling the worth of your other talent!

One last face off

Cena pushes Roman to the limit so the Tribal Chief puts his career on the line at the last minute, an unnecessary stipulation for a match everyone was invested in anyway. Reigns digs at Cena again but this time it’s cleaner, not meaner so the point of this is to just have them interact; it was better last week.

Honorable mentions

1. Corbin vs KO ends when Big E attacks Corbin, Corbin escapes with his property.

2. Otis beats Ford in a quick but cool match.

Final take

I didn’t like the closing segment, it felt weak to me. However, the rest of the show was ok. I feel like they should have swapped this week with last week.
